The brouhaha over failure of the military to pay death benefits to the families of fallen soldiers is striking in the way that nobody could determine who was responsible for making the decision to suspend those payments.

"I think that was a terrible decision and they need to find out who made it and hold them accountable," said Alan Coombs.

Yes, what? Hold Congressional committee investigations to find out who made the decision? We already know from the IRS hearings that we're never going to find out. And if you cone down on some particular person then they resign and whoever replaces them claims ignorance.

But it's very simple when you change the question and want to know who is responsible for that decision. The President is responsible.

So, it really ought to be straightforward. When something like this happens we should be going to the President about it.

Or if the President isn't responsible for what the Executive Branch does, then who the hell is? Or are we dealing with some sort of ridiculous, anonymous multi-headed monster?

Obama seems to be responsible for every last thing in the U.S. and seemingly has to sign off on everything the government does.
