The Democrats haven’t been discussing shit. They have just demanded that the subsidies continue. No negotiations. In fact, they set up this issue by refusing to try to make the subsidies permanent during the Biden administration.
Why didn’t they make the subsidies permanent? Were the Democrats planning on a government shutdown? **** Chuck and his leftists minions. How do they negotiate with someone who isn't an honest broker?
Isn’t he supposed to be some sort of deal maker. Sounds to me like you don’t really buy that either. What is the president's authority to pass a budget?
Fetterman is the only sane Democrat. They already want to primary him for the 2028 race.
They use their power to deny pay to fedearl workers? They should give up the only power they have?
Oh, it surely does. There's a lot of people on the left who think their leaders are weak and support strongarm tactics like the shutdown. Last thing Chuck Schumer wants is for those people to be protesting against him. He'll let them have their little no kings thing and then (hopefully) open things up next week.

I wish they would give up that power.

Where is that coming from. You attached nothing to support this so called "fact", probably because it's far from fact. The majority has refused to include the minority in any appropriations discussions...fact
Wow, that was quite a walk down memory lane. Thanks for that link!Yup, the leftists/liberals/progressives all forget about King Obama. “I won”
Actually, what Taylor said in the comment you said was "getting way out-of-hand" is an identical scenario to what the Dems are demanding and have shut the government down for right now. Taylor's comment includes agreeing to extend something the other party passed AND passed with an expiration date set by that other party. Then Taylor's comment includes undoing a chunk of just passed important legislation by the other party. You know what? You guys are getting way out-of-hand.
This is a budget negotiation. It should have occurred earlier. But, it didn't. It's simply that, no more - no less.
I think you're reading far more into it than is occurring. Kings' Day? Really?
I hope they aren't extended. Why do the ACA subsidies need to be extended? They were put in place for COVID. Joe Biden cured COVID, or so we were told.
Which is precisely why the subsidies should be extended for 6 months to a year while the work it all out. The Dems would be fools to just believe the GOP will operate in good faith and let the subsidies expire.I hope they aren't extended.
I imagine, if the Dems vote for the CR, the GOP will work with them and agree to some sort of a short term extension. But with significant changes. For example, something like 40% of the group on subsidized ACA, never had a single claim in a year. Many didn't even realize they had or still had the insurance. The reason that has happened is because these policies are auto renewed (like a magazine subscription). And the subsidized person or family may have no cost at all, but the federal government pays that state for each and every auto renewal. And, of course, the state then uses that money as they decide too.
Just a day or two ago, someone posted a thread about how a couple would face premiums of over $2000 a month instead of under $100 a month if these subsidies weren't extended. My first thought was, is that $2000/month what the taxpayers are paying for this couple right now - and for millions of others being subsidized? And to think we the taxpayers are also paying that for millions in that subsidy group who aren't even using the insurance. What a fraud disaster that auto renewal situation has become with the taxpayers footing the fraud bill. All that needs to be carefully looked at and addressed. Thune said the other day, he has about 100 suggestions as to needed changes to tighten the program up and remove fraud, should it be extended at all. Time is a wasting for negotiating those suggestions and there isn't a chance something that messed up and needing such careful examination, will be solved during an utterly unreasonable foot stomping shutdown.

No, the sackless cuck known as Mike Johnson.Schumer? I think he's waiting for the protests to be over. He doesn't want to get Mamdanied.
Funny how when Fetterman was running and had the stroke MAGA was demanding he step down. Now, because he isn’t towing the line, MAGA are drooling over him.Fetterman is the only sane Democrat. They already want to primary him for the 2028 race.
Okay, cancel auto-renewal, if that's a thing. I don't have any problem with people needing to opt-in if they're getting benefits.I hope they aren't extended.

Wait one minute... how much do you think healthcare costs in America today? My employer kicks in a hefty $24k / year for mine and I pay a good chunk every paycheck - $10k / year maybe. I do have a good plan, but unless you would like to see quality, access, excellence of our doctors diminish, I suggest you get used to paying up. We could always go single-payer. Let the ACA fail and wait and see what comes next. Americans shouldn't have to accept the ER-only option (free and ignore the bill collectors) that many of them had before.Just a day or two ago, someone posted a thread about how a couple would face premiums of over $2000 a month instead of under $100 a month if these subsidies weren't extended. What does today's protests have to do with the government shutdown?Hopefully after we get this no kings silliness out of the way, Democrats will allow the government to reopen and everyone can get paid.
I do too, so then those who can no longer afford health insurance can start asking questions as to why the government decided that was a good idea.I hope they aren't extended.
Is health insurance someone doesn't know they have? That doesn't sound believable at all, because unlike a magazine subscription, healthcare is one of those life necessities one needs to sort out and when one doesn't have it, one is very aware of not having it.I imagine, if the Dems vote for the CR, the GOP will work with them and agree to some sort of a short term extension. Odd the GOP isn't negotiating though. I'm also fascinated by your idea that somehow people not using the insurance is a bad thing, which it isn't. Those in reasonably good health won't put in many claims. One has insurance for when comes down with a major illness or accidents requiring expensive care.Just a day or two ago, someone posted a thread about how a couple would face premiums of over $2000 a month instead of under $100 a month if these subsidies weren't extended. Another foolish Traitor Trump middle finger to all that aren’t on Team MAGAt.--Trump to pay Ice and border agents amid shutdown as other federal workers go unpaid
Administration reportedly promises ‘supercheck’ covering shutdown pay for law enforcement officers across DHSwww.theguardian.com

Unlike all other federal employees, the Trump administration is promising to continue to pay DHS/ICE during the government shutdown.
The employees will be given a "Supercheck" containing not only monies for hours worked, but also including an additional full pay period "in advance".
The Administration did not disclose where the funding was coming from, nor reference the legality of paying employees in advance for work not yet performed.
