There is some sort of a global warming, but it isn't due to human activity on the Earth spreading "green house gasses" it is just a warming trend, the Earth's climate actually goes up and down a lot, and here in Monte Vista, Colorado I have experienced one of the coldest winters in my life.. the temperature was below zero most of the time and I don't think ever got above freezing so if there is any global warming, why isn't it affecting the GLOBE??

I consider myself to be one of the people concerned about the environment who don't give in to knee-jerk hysteria over it.

However, any ecosystem is incredibly diverse and complicated. Imagine a wetland in the Dakotas and all of the complex interactions within the flora and fauna. Now take that image and apply it to the entire world of seven continents and six billion people all living in perfect harmony. Okay, not perfect harmony, but even leaving that part out, you're extrapolating to a huge degree by trying to compare an isolated environment to something bigger than most of us can probably wrap our heads around. How big is the Earth? I dunno, pretty friggin' big.

It's warm here in London, almost unseasonably so this weekend. Should I follow the same logic and say that global warming is not only real, but it's imminent this month?

Is the Earth warming? Yes. Nobody reputable disputes that. Is it caused by man? Is it going to lead to catastrophic consequences? These questions require a little more. To say it's hot upstairs but not downstairs, so it clearly can't be summer is a little silly. To say that it's unseasonably cold in your zip code and therefore we should question the whole of scientific evidence strikes me as equally so.

The plural of anecdote is not data.

Well said, I agree wholeheartedly.

we need to get the politicians out of this and leave the scientists alone. Let them do their jobs. Don't attack people for coming to one conclusion or another. That's what other scientists are for... not me or you.

Just do something else for a while... no more legislation until we know for sure what is going on and what we can do about it.

Just look at the difference in the polar caps today, compared to many years ago. Man has only recently begun dumping tons upon tons of crap into our air compared to the life span of our planet. Needless to say, if man doesn't kill himself or pollute himself to death, the sun will eventually get us for sure.

The caps are not significantly different. It's seasonal. Every time a pole is in summer it shrinks every time it's in winter it grows.

The yearly maximums aren't changing much.

Most of the shrinkage people talk about is in the North pole and most of that is due to poor observation. Most of this is due to the US being forbidden to map the ice caps with with sonar from it's subs.
