The genocide in Khojaly

Unfortunately the continuation of the debate about Khojaly tragedy shows us, Azeri people, that leaders of two neighboring countries are still not ready to compromise. Traditionally, our President, Ilham Aliev, addressed to our people, a number of times on television showed transfer, on the Khojaly terrible events. But this year, however at the forefront of the campaign was aimed at the recognition of the Khojaly tragedy as act of genocide. For example, in a message printed in our newspaper “Bakinsky Rabochiy” Aliev called Khojaly events “the bloodiest page in the policy of ethnic cleansing and genocide, repeatedly held Armenians against Azerbaijanis”.
But it seems to me all these steps, including the recent appeal of our military Prosecutor’s Office to Interpol to “apprehend those, who have committed the genocide in Khojaly”, were made, catering to demands of Turkey, which had felt aggravated at US attempts to recognize Armenian genocide. And I’m sure we should seek recognition of Khojaly tragedy as crime against humanity in our own right. Otherwise our policy of Turkish follower can result in a civil war, ruin and poverty for Azerbaijan. And even NATO membership will be unable to pull us out of the fire. We’ll only be the next country among those in Alliance who supply cannon fodder in such cases.
So Aliev makes a mistake of cottoning up Turkey. He is heading for disaster. At the best case he will retry Milosevic “experiment”, at the worst - repeat the way of Hussein.
