In a prior thread I posted that true Liberals, Centrists, and Conservatives often share goals but simply differ on how best to reach them. That the problem with arguing with Leftist’s is that their goals are often diametrically opposed to Liberal, Centrist, and Conservative ones, thus there is little or no room for compromise.

The reaction was swift, as Members who assert that the Left and being Liberal are the same thing jumped on this with both feet, crying that I was denigrating anyone not a "Conservative."

This morning I came across another Prager U. video just this morning which points out some of the clear differences between what constitutes someone on the Left from someone who is a true Liberal.

Here are the six difference presented, for those who hate watching “propaganda” and prefer summations:

1. Race:

The Liberal Position:

a. The color of a person’s skin is insignificant, and
b. Those who believe Race is significant, are racists.
c. Liberals are committed to racial integration.

Left’s Position:
a. The attitude that Race is unimportant, is racist.
b. The Left is committed to racial segregation (ex. In colleges advocating for separate college dorms, separate graduation ceremonies, etc.).

2. Capitalism:

Liberal Position:

a. Liberals are committed to Capitalism because the support Free Enterprise and because this system lifts large numbers of people out of poverty.
b. Liberals do support a bigger government role in the economy, but never opposed capitalism in support of Socialism.

Left’s Position:

a. Opposition to Capitalism and Advocacy of Socialism.

3. Nationalism:

Liberal Position:

a. A belief in the nation-state, thus willing to protect American sovereignty and borders.

Left’s Position:

a. The world is divided by class not national identity, thus supports open borders and globalism.

4. View of America:

Liberal Position:

a. Venerate America, patriotic, America is the last, best hope of Earth.

Left’s Position:

a. America is racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, violent, and imperialistic.

5. Free Speech:

Liberal Position:

a. I wholly disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.

Left’s Position:

a. Identifies things they disagree with as “Hate Speech” which deserves no protection at all. In fact, it deserves punishment of some kind.

6. Western Civilization:

Liberal Position:

a. Champion Western Civilization’s moral, philosophic, artistic, musical, and literary achievements.

Left’s Position:

a. Western Civilization is no better than any other, and is just a euphemism for White Supremacy.

I hope this clears up some confusion about the differences between what I consider to be LEFT as oppsed to being LIBERAL.

You really need to lose the 'Libertarian' tag on your profile.

You are like most Libertarians, you wear the Libertarian clothes but inside you are 110% Republican far right.

Why do folks spend so much time trying to explain to liberals or leftists whichever you prefer, what they are? I think it might be better if the right tried to figure out what their own party stands for. I hear every day what they are against and other than god, guns, abortion and taxes what is the GOP for? Certainly not clean air or water, a living wage for the hourly wage slaves, better education, infrastructure which is talked about but nothing put forward. Health care for all? What is the GOP for?

The leftist perspective is a fictional position the right makes up for liberals because they can't actually argue agianst the liberals positions. in your post, the "leftist" perspective is the BS the right makes up (more like hears from conservative commentators who made it up) about liberals actual positions.

So it should read

Liberals positions

Right winger fantasy liberal position

So glad you made this post, it shows perfectly what liberals actually argue for, and the BS the right makes up.

Why do folks spend so much time trying to explain to liberals or leftists whichever you prefer, what they are? Because they have no fact, no logic, no reasoning, no reasonable reason why they think their position is right. Since they are wrong, I can see why they would have to make up fictional positions liberals don't actually take to avoid the actual discussing. since they have no arguments

Ah PragerU.

Using cutesy animations to satisfy the confirmation biases of Captain Adverses everywhere.

Of course videos like this are strawmen on the scale of the Collosus of Rhodes.

I am curious, what part of that is fictional?

How about we let people define for themselves what they mean when they form a “lean”, instead of trying to force OUR opinions of what THEY are or should be on them?

I know...silly thought that.

It's a fair distinction. Equality and liberty, the cornerstones of liberalism, are neither Left or Right which are designations more in line with divisions of economic power. But while it is possible for a Leftist nation to be antagonistic to liberalism, as in Stalinist USSR for example, liberalism never survives under a Right wing government.

Oh look, isn't that cute: some one with no clue what "the left" or "liberals" think is telling us the difference between what those people think...

What, exactly, is a "living wage"? I agree that it is very difficult, if not impossible, to discuss any public policy position when no specifics are involved.

Interesting reading, don't agree with some of it, but that is not really an issue. Problem is while those that lean Left know that they are a diverse group many of those that lean Right, especially Far Right, do not understand that and as such treat anyone that disagrees as an enemy of the Nation. Kind if hard to discuss issues with someone that considers their fellow Americans as The Enemy.
Once this runs its course consider trying have to the same discussion on Conservatives verses the Far Right, just for balance and the informative contribution it would bring overall.

I appreciate you pointing out the differences. To be fair, I considered the two the same,
and wondered how people who subscribed to the left's political ideology justified
the open hypocrisy of many of the liberal's stated goals.
As a fiscal conservative, I want everyone to succeed, and for our government
to minimize the necessary cost of providing a framework where everyone has an equal opportunity
to succeed.

Why even post this pointless garbage?

A job that pays enough to cover the outrageous cost of almost everything. If a person renting has to use two paychecks just to cover their rent, doesn't leave a lot of money left to cover other life essentials.

That is far easier said than done. In order to discuss public policy X one has to define it first. Tossing out terms like "Medicare For All" without defining any major program/policy details is meaningless.

How many threads are you going to start trying to promote this concept? The fact is there is a spectrum of ideology that AmeriCAN's subscribe to. Trying to make gray, black and white so you can further better focus your hate for a segment of your fellow AmeriCANs isn't going to bring us together. Recognizing there are extreme's is important to solving our problems but labeling someone that thinks differently so you can better attack them solves nothing. The best way to destroy and enemy is to make them your friend. It's too bad some people need someone to look down on so they can feel up.

No one jumped on you, and I didn't assert that the left and liberal are the same. I pointed out that there is an equally extreme right, which there is, a concept you will not accept.

How is this administration doing in your fiscal conservative opinion? I'm not asking overall how you think it's doing, I'm asking specifically about the fiscal part.

It is nonsense like that (bolded above) which makes any discussion impossible. You seem to be saying that two people doing the same job for the same employer should be paid differently based on their (household's?) living expenses.

What kind of degree can I get at Prager U?

How is this administration doing in your fiscal conservative opinion? I'm not asking overall how you think it's doing, I'm asking specifically about the fiscal part.
I would always like to see a tighter hand on the peoples money, but I think they are doing better than a Hillary administration would have done.

It is nonsense like that (bolded above) which makes any discussion impossible. You seem to be saying that two people doing the same job for the same employer should be paid differently based on their (household's?) living expenses.

What I'm saying is we should do nothing and see what changes. That's how I read most of your posts. I think in many you are trying to be neutral but being neutral will change nothing.

You really need to lose the 'Libertarian' tag on your profile.

You are like most Libertarians, you wear the Libertarian clothes but inside you are 110% Republican far right.

On the boards I post on most people changed from conservative or Republican to libertarians about a year after trump was elected. I've always found that fascinating.

1. Race:

The Liberal Position:

a. The color of a person’s skin is insignificant, and
b. Those who believe Race is significant, are racists.
c. Liberals are committed to racial integration.

Nope, we don't say or believe "b". Those who believe race is significant are not very bright...….but they are not racist. Racist are those who dislike someone with a different skin color solely because of their skin color. Sad strawman you have there.

What I'm saying is we should do nothing and see what changes. That's how I read most of your posts. I think in many you are trying to be neutral but being neutral will change nothing.

Never defining "the change" alters nothing. Simply babbling about a "living wage" requirement without ever defining it as a dollar amount makes it very difficult to determine how one could tell whether it has been met or not. If my rent goes up by $100/month then how much should my boss have to raise my pay? If my car payment goes up by $50/month then how much should my boss raise my pay? If my spouse loses their job or I add another dependent child then how much should my boss raise my pay?

You should have said 'far left' instead of just 'left'. You should have also listed the positions of the 'far right' and conservatives.
