The globalism that the democrats want is an ancient and dangerous vision of society, repeating the ancient transatlantic economic rules with China is a mistake,
rules that have penalized the middle class and disproportionately enriched the rich Chinese.

A dangerous globalism that makes more gain castes and impoverish others, a globalism that increases the power of terrorist organizations and corrupt governments as seen in Lebanon.

A globalism that robotizes people and democracies with the influencers of Facebook, Istangram and Twitter, social that control democracies, they HELP with the support of the media without meritocracy people of COMMUNIST and ANARCHIST mentality.

The war in Syria, the crisis in Venezuela, the Covid, the many companies that have closed, the invasion of migrants, the globalist past wanted by Obama and others is to be forgotten.

President Trump and the Republicans have the right and modern view of the world.

What is "taking counsel from your fears?" Alex.

Globalism is dying - the US has been retreating steadily from international treaties, allies, obligations since @ least the Clinton admin. The thing to watch for now is balkanization, on a global scale. The countries that can't defend their own borders, supply their own needs, & trade or buy anything remaining that they need, will likely go to the wall.

It won't be pretty. Except that the US is nearly self-sufficient, we should do OK.

And self-sufficiency will do what when our external trade dries up?

What is the alternative to globalism? Like, what does a not-global America look like, and how is that accomplished?

Pre-world war two America, I guess.

Pre-world war two America, I guess.

Even if that were the goal, I'm not sure how such a thing is accomplished. Turn off the internet? Cut off trade?

Or a time machine to take us back to the glories of the early 1930s?

"Globalism" is inevitable. It is nothing more than societies naturally expanding to include other societies as we have always done. Once we were individual tribes. Then we "globalized" became individual villages. Then we "globalized" again and became individual countries. Now we are "globalizing" into international alliances.

Humans will always expand our horizons and increase the number of cultures we include into our over-arching global culture. Globalism is the future. Vote for someone who promises to stop globalization and you may as well vote for someone who promises to stop the sun from setting.

We'll still be able to export oil & natgas, for instance. In fact, the market for those two should skyrocket. & if we can continue to produce crops for export - corn, wheat - those products should also be in much greater demand than they are now.

So globalism, only with a limited number of jobs.

Are we there yet?

It's coming, it's been coming for decades. See Disunited Nations : The Scramble for Power in an Ungoverned World / Peter Zeihan, c2020, Harper Business, 327.1 ZEIH.

Subjects

"Most countries and companies are not prepared for the world Peter Zeihan says we're already living in. For decades, America's allies have depended on its might for their economic and physical security. But as a new age of American isolationism dawns, the results will surprise everyone. In Disunited Nations, geopolitical strategist Peter Zeihan presents a series of counterintuitive arguments about the future of a world where trade agreements are coming apart and international institutions are losing their power"-- Provided by publisher.

Length
xvi, 453 pages : many maps & graphs, index

A scary overview of where the World could be heading. Highly recommended.

No, the US & the alliances & policies that the US favored since 1945 made globalism possible. Without the US nor anyone else promoting & protecting it, globalism will fall apart.

So we don't need to trade globally?

So we don't need to trade globally?

See the book I mentioned above in #13. We'll do much better than most countries. But there will be a lot of suffering out in the World.

So when are you actually going to demonstrate or explain why globalism is dangerous, or has anything to do with any of the supposed problems you listed, in horribly broken English?

What is the alternative to globalism? Like, what does a not-global America look like, and how is that accomplished?

1. Withdraw from all "international" organizations. Observe classical neutrality in foreign conflicts.

2. Restore the immigration quotas as they existed in 1924. Disallow dual citizenship.

3. Impose high tariffs on all foreign goods. Embargo goods from any country that retaliates.

4. Disallow foreign ownership of US real estate or corporations. Tax the export of US currency.

This is all politically impossible, of course. But it would be perfectly feasible if we had the will to carry it out.

Marco Polo was a globalist.

There are way too many opportunities and gains to be made in globalism for the free market not to push strongly in that direction. That’s something they teach in every econ 101 class and something people knew since the early industrial revolution with Adam Smith: trade and specialization create wealth. Massively. For everyone. It’s magic. It’s not a zero sum game, it is win-win for all parties. The best that governments can, or should do, is try to soften the short term temporary impact on their workers. Yes there can be some short term pain and displacement there. But make no mistake: nations who try to pursue self sufficiency will fall behind and be left in the dust. Those who embrace specialization, free unrestricted trade, and globalism will thrive and be the leaders of tomorrow’s world- both economically and politically.

Donald Trump is not on the right track with this approach of isolationism and xenophobia. We have already lost our standing as a leading voice for democracy, freedom, justice, law and order, and human rights in the world with his embarrassing foreign policy approach and shenanigans the last few years. His approach in economics is a sure fire way to supplement that and make sure we lose massively in the economic arena as well and become just another corrupt backwater third world banana republic.

I would have argued with you about this in 1996, but the results are obvious.
