Used a gun similar to those used in recent mass shootings.

He killed FIVE police officers.

How many of these weapons wouldn't be in circulation if the assault weapons ban hadn't been allowed to expire twenty years ago?

Reagan's rolling in his grave.

NEW YORK (WABC) -- Details are emerging about the weapon used to carry out the deadly ambush on police officers in Dallas, and while not confirmed, it is believed that the sniper used what is increasingly the weapon of choice in mass shootings.

"We will find that it was a military-style assault weapon with a large capacity magazine on it," Citizens Crime Commission president Richard Aborn said. "And this happens over and over and over again."

Last month, a military-style rifle was used by the gunman who killed 49 people at an Orlando nightclub. And last December, a husband and wife terrorist team killed 14 using a similar semi-automatic rifle. Adam Lanza used a military-type rifle in 2012 to kill 26 students and teachers at a school in Newtown Connecticut, and a similar AR-15-type military rifle was used to kill 12 people earlier that year in a Colorado movie theater.

"The AR-15 Assault weapon is the preferred weapon of these mass killers," former NYPD sergeant and FBI special agent Manuel Gomez said.

Gomez says that until Congress reinstates the ban on these military-style weapons, they will continue to be used in mass shootings because of their killing efficiency.

"You can shoot 50, 60, up to 100 rounds in one minute," he said. "And each round designed to enter the body and tear that piece that it entered apart."

A report by New York's Citizen Crime Commission concluded that after Congress lifted the ban on these military-style rifles in 2004, the number of people killed by semi-automatic, high-capacity guns tripled. Aborn said the Dallas police killings adds to their death toll.

The good news is that you can also use these weapons to fire back at somebody using one to kill a lot of people. You see, the problem isn't the weapon. The difference is who is using it and what their purpose is.

He could have killed just as many with any number of semi-automatic, non-military 'style' weapons.

It's not the gun...it's the nut using the gun.

Guns don't shoot people. Guns don't make choices. Guns don't think. Guns don't kill.

Focus on the actual problems, not some inanimate object just because it might look scary to you.

We don't have a gun problem. We have a culture problem that makes excuses for people making bad choices, and rewards those that continue to make bad choices. We have a mental health problem, where most health providers are not able to warn police due to the federal laws. People that break the law and kill people, are not deterred in their efforts by laws saying they can't.

Just think about this - If killers were deterred by laws, they wouldn't be killers, since murder has been illegal in this country from the time our country was born. Yet those laws haven't stopped people from killing others. Making guns illegal will only disarm the law abiding citizens, and criminals will still have guns... because they're criminals, and don't give a flip about the law.

Do we honestly think that making guns illegal will stop a criminal from getting his hands on one? Seriously?

Yep, you're absolutely right. We will also note that the shooter was a veteran (american hero), and that he was a law abiding citizen, who took advantage of his ability to own an assault weapon in case the government comes for his guns...

So, what could go wrong!?!

Well, the bad news is all those cops had AR15s and nobody could get'em. Now we have 5 more dead cops on or hands and 9 wounded people.

Ugh. Now we're blaming guns again.

I just heard an NPR story on All Things Considered. Reporter Deena Temple Rastin insisted that the method used to engage Micah Johnson should be looked into in the next couple of days. The left wing loonies will start complaining about Johnson's rights being violated soon, ooh could there be a million dollar lawsuit in store for Micah Johnson's mama?

Deena Temple Rastin was All Things Considered's terrorism correspondent for years, and she would glowingly talk about terrorism suspects as they made court appearances in the U.S.

This gun is fully capable of doing the exact same thing an "assault styled weapon" does.

But it's not called an "assault weapon" because it looks different.

Does this make sense to anyone?

People like you sell lots of those weapons by trying to ban them.

Gomez is a morn and a disgrace to his former agency.

and the second amendment is about citizens being able to own REAL military rifles

less than 2% of all gunshot deaths each year involve the weapons that cause the Bannerrhoids to soil themselves.

The media is doing its best to tell copycat mass shooters to use these weapons

Good job Bannerhroids

good job anti gun media fools

What in the actual **** are you talking about?

What in the actual **** are you talking about?

Jet's goal is to make every gun owner in the USA suffer the same idiotic laws that the sheeple in California deal with. Jet's mad that he cannot own a normal capacity magazine in California. SO he tries to pretend that no one else should be able to own them either.

the best way to Understand Jet's argument is to read Aesop's fable about the Fox that lost its tail

Right?!?

I can almost drive nails with my 30.06.

Don't suppose anyone remembers what happened last time America played cowboys and indians.

It's time to join hands and sing Kumbaya.

Nahh, I don't think it takes banana clips.

How could this of happened if Dallas isn't a gun free zone ?

Weird huh; all those armed law abiding citizens with CCW and open carry. None of them ran down there to shoot the guy and save 'Merica.

any weapon that accepts a detachable magazine can accept a "banana clip" (LOL more Jet ignorance of proper terms). The only issue has one been made for what appears to be an old Marlin or Savage 22 lr.
