The Dallas Shooter

Used a gun similar to those used in recent mass shootings.

He killed FIVE police officers.

How many of these weapons wouldn't be in circulation if the assault weapons ban hadn't been allowed to expire twenty years ago?

Reagan's rolling in his grave.

NEW YORK (WABC) -- Details are emerging about the weapon used to carry out the deadly ambush on police officers in Dallas, and while not confirmed, it is believed that the sniper used what is increasingly the weapon of choice in mass shootings.

"We will find that it was a military-style assault weapon with a large capacity magazine on it," Citizens Crime Commission president Richard Aborn said. "And this happens over and over and over again."

Last month, a military-style rifle was used by the gunman who killed 49 people at an Orlando nightclub. And last December, a husband and wife terrorist team killed 14 using a similar semi-automatic rifle. Adam Lanza used a military-type rifle in 2012 to kill 26 students and teachers at a school in Newtown Connecticut, and a similar AR-15-type military rifle was used to kill 12 people earlier that year in a Colorado movie theater.

"The AR-15 Assault weapon is the preferred weapon of these mass killers," former NYPD sergeant and FBI special agent Manuel Gomez said.

Gomez says that until Congress reinstates the ban on these military-style weapons, they will continue to be used in mass shootings because of their killing efficiency.

"You can shoot 50, 60, up to 100 rounds in one minute," he said. "And each round designed to enter the body and tear that piece that it entered apart."

A report by New York's Citizen Crime Commission concluded that after Congress lifted the ban on these military-style rifles in 2004, the number of people killed by semi-automatic, high-capacity guns tripled. Aborn said the Dallas police killings adds to their death toll.
Thank goodness the rifle used was not one of those DOJ sent down to Mexico in Fast & Furious, eh?

The ar-15 was not used in the dallas shootings, this is still repeated by some despite being proven false, and most other media outlets just say rifle, and refuse to clarify on what type. The ar-15 belief was from a picture circulating social media that the news picked up on and spread before they verified it.

The actual weapon used was an sks, a ww2 semi automatic rifle, and was basically similiar in functionality to the m1 garand. the ww2 sks has never qualified as an assault weapon, and is even still fully legal in california, of course cali may now push to ban that antique outdated rifle loophole that allows rifles with fixed magazines that only hold 10 rounds.

People like you sell lots of those weapons by trying to ban them.

Gomez is a morn and a disgrace to his former agency.

and the second amendment is about citizens being able to own REAL military rifles

less than 2% of all gunshot deaths each year involve the weapons that cause the Bannerrhoids to soil themselves.

The media is doing its best to tell copycat mass shooters to use these weapons

Good job Bannerhroids

good job anti gun media fools

The news reports coming out are showing a ww2 era sks as what the dallas shooter used, so they are going off on assault weapons when none was used this time.

If the killer had used a Garand, chances are the fatalities would have been higher given how much more powerful the 30-06 round is compared to the intermediate strength 762x39 Combloc round

The higher power would not have added so much as the higher range, the 7.62x39 has decent range, but the 30-06 has much more, and someone in a crowded city could have used that extra range making even more difficult to find the shooter.

It should also be noted the police took him out with a bomb robot, because he claimed he had ied's around him and wanted to take as many of them out with him as he could. He also had bomb making materials at his house, so this guy had thoroughly planned his attack, and his rifle was likely chosen for a reason.

You have to remember that assault weapons bans are nothing more than a pretext for banning all semiautomatic firearms. So they will say ignorant **** like military style assault weapon, semi-automatic high-capacity guns and other absurd terms meant to demonize semiautomatic firearms.

Of course they are ignorant, the sks has a fixed 10 round magazine, no pistol grip, no fancy features at all similiar to what they label as assault weapons except the bayonet attachment.

If i remember correctly they did the same thing after the planned parenthood shooting, everyone called for an assault weapons ban to stop tragedies like it when the shooter used a semi automatic hunting rifle.

I think its more dishonesty on their part than it is ignorance. They just can't come out nationally and say they want to ban all semi-automatic firearms.

The shootings may or may not have occured. To say one way or the other is ignorant. Btw, other countries such as Canada allow ownership of these so called assault style firearms but do not have the same issues. If it is a matter of availability, why do they not have similar issues? Your whole premise is pretty ignorant.

This story is blatantly false. The weapon used was an antique Russian Siaga semiautomatic AK-74 rifle, manufactured in the 1940's. You can read about it here.

And, BTW, this gun even passes all California gun restriction laws, which are some of the toughest in the nation.

How is the statement false? He used a semi-automatic rifle, one that can be easily modified to kill more people. That an unmodified one is legal in California is a moot point.

Uh how would it be modified to "kill more people"? I laugh at the bannerrhoid nonsense i see being spewed on this board. What exactly is your solution? and I suspect your motivation is something other than an honest attempt to reduce violent crime

That gun is the absolute definition of what anti gun people demand, ten round fixed magazine, no flash suppresor, no pistol grip, no detatchable magazine. It proves what people like you demand would have zero impact on crime, as the shooter could have done the same with a bolt action rifle, heck with enough distance, someone with a flintlock kentucky rifle could have done the same damage if he used a skyscraper roof, as the time it would take to identify the shooter and get to him or get a sniper would leave massive time to inflict casualties.

It seems you deem anything semiautomatic as ar style assault weapons, which is so false it is unbelievable, semi automatics have been around over 100 years, and never suddenly became more or less deadly because out of the blue.

uh An AK-74 rifle was not made until 1974-hence the term AK 74.

I see gun supporters arguing that making guns illegal won't prevent criminals from illegally making use of them.

But the image of the guy dying in Minnesota tells me that making guns legal doesn't automatically protect the right of non-criminal gun owners in legally possessing firearms.

The absence of commentary from the NRA on the incident doesn't help things.

why? BTW the SAF and its lobbying arm, the CCKBA is demanding answers over the guy shot by the cop

I could swear I posted a link describing how easy it is to modify this gun to carry many more rounds. Find it.

Oops, typo. LOL.

Yeah its an SKS. The russian made ones with the laminated stocks could once be had for under 150, the PLA made Chicom ones were able to be bought for 99 bucks. I never bought one though even though they are well made and durable

So, he would done exactly - what - with a sling shot...

If he would have been aborted at birth this wouldn't have happened. If the media hasn't radicalized him this wouldn't have happened. If he didn't have emotion this wouldn't have happened. Blah blah blah. Let's take away people's right to defense because someone bad did something bad.

so what? with a stripper clip (the right use of the term clip) you can reload them rather quickly. When you gun banners whine about number of rounds, you really are arguing for a complete gun ban unless you are actually believing that honest people can be trusted with say 10 rounds but not 15 rounds in their guns

Jet's real motivation is that he lives in California and he wants Californian Idiocy imposed on the rest of us
