Thirteen years ago, the intelligence community concluded in a 93-page classified document used to justify the invasion of Iraq that it lacked "specific information" on "many key aspects" of Iraqi President Saddam Hussein's weapons of mass destruction (WMD) programs.

But that's not what top Bush administration officials said during their campaign to sell the war to the American public. Those officials, citing the same classified document, asserted with no uncertainty that Iraq was actively pursuing nuclear weapons, concealing a vast chemical and biological weapons arsenal, and posing an immediate and grave threat to US national security.

And yes, that does make George W. Bush a war criminal.

Article is here.

And a copy of the actual declassified document is here.

I don't have time to read all of it...

I always assumed that Bush just used wrong information to go into IRAQ and that he sought bad information. I never imagined that a president would literally lie to get us into war. I thought I was already a cynic, but apparently I'm not cynical enough. This actually makes Hillary Clinton look even worse since many senators had access to information that the public didn't but still chose to go to war anyway.

Also this means that Donald Trump was right and that Dubya literally lied about Iraq.

The CIA Director tells the President it's a "slam dunk" that Iraq has WMD's, some report is printed in the press, and that makes GWB a war criminal?

But that's not what the CIA told Bush. From the declassified document:

"Estimate was approved for publication by the National Foreign Intelligence Board under the authority of the Director
of Central Intelligence. "

This comes as no suprise. Incompetance in the post invasion was rife. Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, and Rice screwed the pooch. The debacle with the post invasion got thousands killed, MISMANAGEMENT of the highest degree. Thats what happens when ya elect a Frat Boy and surrond him with idologues. Shamefull!!

A quick read of the first dozen or so pages of the NIE show that Iraq had rebuilt its Bio and Chem weapons programs to the point where they were within a few months of having more capability than they did before the 1991 war. The estimate also notes significant endeavors in their nuclear program and ballistic missile program.

Should we have waited until after Saddam gassed a city to take him out? Is that really the preferred method of national defense?

It actually makes him a felon, and by default subject to charges of felony murderer since American soldiers died as a direct result of the predicate felony. Not that anyone will have the gnads to charge him.

Of course not, but the GOP will spend millions on roasting Hillary over her email account, sheer hypocrisy !!

Is it any wonder the GOP has selective amnesia 2000-2008? And now they want to sell us the Don, hell no !!

Yep. Endless investigation over 4 lives lost in Benghazi. But, when it comes to lying 4,000 people to their deaths in Iraq...crickets.

I don't know. Do we arrest people before they commit crimes because we think they might someday?

What law did Bush violate?

Saddam Hussein murdered 300 thousand people, before we invaded in 2003.

There's nothing to investigate.

Oh but were going to spread freedom in tge region, of course that was the selling line once it was discovered there were no WMD's. Sure Clinton voted for the invasion, but she had F all to do with the debacle that came after, GOP owns that collection of idiots all on there own.

And how many are killed in North Korea yearly?

It was for oil, plain and simple, so come up with something else ok. I did not see US intervention in Rwanda when they were killing each other.

Same with Benghazi?

Stalin murdered 50 million people. Did we go to war with The Soviet Union, or Germany and Japan?

Obviously, you're mistaken. The people have a right to know who they're voting for.

Re: The CIA Just Declassified the Document That Supposedly Justified the Iraq Invasio

congress and only congress should declare wars.

you all can blame Bush all you want - I find him to be a dufus of the highest order, but the blame here rests squarely on the people for allowing the checks and balances to be undermined.

shame on the op for not accepting his rightful blame. this is our fault. we treat presidential elections like we are selecting the king and give him too much power.

You do realize we get most of our oil from Canada right?

Poor deflect from what was the Frat boy and chief and the incompetance that was Bush2. You can pretend 2000-2008 did not happen, the rest of us, especially those that were there in uniform. It sucked, just like the last GOP Pres!!

so does that mean OPEC production has no effect on us? you might want to reconsider the relevance of your reply.
