And this is the danger to all this situation. You and many others only see Skinheads and Racists everywhere and you fail to see the systematic extremism of left wing ideologies that are creeping in every sector of our life.
Sir, you don't know the first thing about what I see, and that is because you've spent the majority of your 50 posts here on DP telling everyone on the left
(from the standpoint of a far right red baiter) what YOU THINK they see.
Furthermore, whenever someone on the left TELLS you what they see and how they see it, you're busy copying and pasting even MORE nonsense and red-baiting drivel.
Capitalism FAILED in the United States in 1929.
The Great Depression ripped the livelihoods, businesses, factories, and life savings right out from under the feet of nearly the entire working class in this country, and the effects were felt around the world.
Membership in communist and socialist groups skyrocketed all through the next decade, reaching a peak in 1936.
I repeat, if EVER there was a chance that America was going to drift toward the extremism of choosing state sanctioned authoritarian communism or even socialism, it would have been then.
The United States was a capitalist country even before Marx wrote Das Kapital, even before terms like "capitalism" even made their way into the lexicon. We have well over three hundred years of experience with capitalism in all its forms.
In fact, thanks to twenty years of steady Democratic Party dominance between 1932 and 1952, and a pragmatic liberal Republican tenure between 1953 and 1959, and the continued tenure of Democratic Party leadership between 1960 and 1968, and steady stewardship of its basic principles by a relatively cooperative bipartisan legislature between 1968 and 1980, The New Deal helped make America's economy the best in the entire recorded history of mankind.
Nothing in the years since 1980 has ever equaled it since, not from the standpoint of quality of life, not from consumer spending power, not from debt to income ratio, not from cost of living and not from consumer confidence.
NOTHING.
And that is because our form of capitalism in those years was a modified and regulated system harnessed to serve as a tool for the middle class back then.
Overall, we have three centuries of experience with capitalism and zero experience with state sanctioned authoritarian socialism, communism and marxism.
There is nothing to inspire a switch to "Brand X" when Brand Z shows the ability to benefit from proper stewardship.
We KNOW HOW to make capitalism serve the working class.
As far as social change, if you fear social change from the left, then the solution is to make the current American brand of conservatism more user friendly to the working class.
Attacking lefty bids for social change has not worked in the entire history of this country and it never will. Pretending that liberal drives for social change is a march to communism failed in the 1950's Red Scare and for the same reasons, it will fail again and again.
It is also LAZY THINKING.
That's not what lefty efforts at social change in America are about.
They are about making this country more FAIR again for the largest number of people.
Are they perfect? Of course not, but no one is.
You must reengage your critical thinking skills instead of furiously copying and pasting blathering tomes from armchair referees.
Insisting that egalitarianism is communism will blow up in your face just as it did for Joseph McCarthy.
People are already sick and tired of being labeled as commies just because they want an America that doesn't have a reputation for being a bunch of assholes.
William Lederer wrote a book in the late Fifties called
"The Ugly American".
It is mostly about our foreign policy failures borne of arrogance, but it did not go far enough.
But the message is clear...we are now regarded once again as the "Ugly Americans" by the world.
It does not bode well for our future.
And your current phobia-driven push to the Trump Right is a guarantee of continued future failure.
We are not headed toward communism but rather, it appears we are indeed headed in lockstep toward authoritarian state sanctioned fascism with added theocracy as a bonus if the Trump Train is allowed to continue to its final destination.
