The Budget is the Problem

In America we are multiple trillion dollars in debt, why has no-one said or done anything about it recently?
I believe it is because America thinks it should police the world and that other countries problems are theirs.
Why do you believe no-one has said anything about the debt?

They do. But besides that, we have been paying down the debt big time, so that it's at a low in recent years (in today's dollars). We would have made more headway if the tax cuts that were supposedly temporary hadn't been made permanent. We are suffering from a lack of revenue. Not that I want higher taxes. But since you're concerned about the debt, I mention the #1 way to decrease it even more. The tax cuts were the #1 reason we dove into such deep debt, to begin with.

The debt isn't meant to be paid off completely in any case. Doing so would seriously hurt the economy. (There have been some good discussion threads on this very topic, right here in DP.)
