So, we've all been reading about this latest Huston shooting shooting, and this is exactly why such weapons should not be in the streets:

Houston Shooter Fired 212 Rounds, Outgunned Police With America's Favorite Rifle

The Army veteran suspected of going on a shooting rampage Sunday in west Houston was able to fire off 212 shots before a SWAT sniper killed him, authorities said Tuesday.

Dionisio Garza III, 26, fatally shot his first victim, 56-year-old Eugene Linscomb, with a pistol, before picking up an AR-15 assault-style rifle and spraying bullets into responding police cruisers and a Houston Police Department helicopter, officials said at a press conference.

Regardless of how we characterize this outburst of gun violence, the incident again highlights problems in our mental health care system and easy access to the military-style firearms used in a number of recent deadly massacres.

A civilian later identified as John Wilson, 30, also reportedly attempted to stop the shooter with his own firearm, but, like police, appeared to be overpowered by Garza.

Alkuteifani also suggested his cousin may have chosen to carry out his attack in Texas because of its loose gun laws, which allow people to openly carry firearms like the AR-15 he used.

Here's what he was able to do to just a cop winshield:

How many gangs around the country have these things, or Mac 9s etc?

Re: The Assault Rifle Does it Again

I don't see very many articles about AR-15s being used in crime. It's not very reasonable to ban the use of a certain gun just because it COULD be used to commit crimes, when it historically hasn't been used for that purpose.

leave it alone, jet
that's only used for hunting

Police are allowed to use AR-15's against citizens, why shouldn't citizens be able to defend themselves with a AR-15? I can think of a couple dozen conventional old fashion wood stock hunting rifles that can be converted within a few hours............... and do a hell of a lot more damage than some .223 or 5.56 rounds.

And they do a poor job of it, as a trained military veteran wasn't able to kill even one person with that AR-15, let alone hit more than six people with it.

The real problem here is our mental health system, particularly with military. We need to take a long look at our nation and see why so many of our citizens are in such poor shape psychologically, and we need to take care of the men and women who served us in combat. Only when we address the underlying cause of this violence, will we be able to prevent incidents such as this.

Re: The Assault Rifle Does it Again

Yet the only person killed was with a handgun?

Re: The Assault Rifle Does it Again

Thread title: The Assault Rifle Does it Again

Ignoring for the moment, the inaccurate term "assault" in the thread title, I have what should a very simple question to answer: The rifle did what, exactly? It got up in the morning, walked out into the street and started shooting stuff all by itself? Is that like when a pick-up truck gets drunk, leaves the garage on its own, and then goes out and runs over a bunch of kids in a crosswalk? That's gotta be one hell of a rifle one bad ass truck, and one high tech artificial intelligence the rifle and the truck have built into them. I sure would like to see a video of that happening.

Gun banners, anti-Second Amendment gun haters, and folks that just really don't understand basic facts about firearms will tend to make mistakes like blaming the rifle and not the person, while at the same time not blame the truck that ran over the kids because the driver was drunk.

Re: The Assault Rifle Does it Again

Thorough training of the population, gun purchase license and a no purchase list go a long way.

The population needs assault rifles to be sufficiently armed to keep pressure on lawmakers and deter fascist moves by the **** we elect to lead us.

Literally, more murders are committed with bludgeoning weapons or knives than rifles of any kind, including AR's.

Re: The Assault Rifle Does it Again

I predict this thread will be the height of intellectual debate.

Denial noted.

None of those people would have been injured if the guy had a billy club.

The man got off 212 rounds. When was the last time 212 bludgeonings took place? 'bout - what, 1413 A.D.? Something like that?

How about an answer to the point rather than a run-around.

It could very well be, if all of the participants would like to think about the thesis - and comment on that.

Do you have anything to contribute?

Excellent thinking. Just what that guy in Huston was counting on. And it worked too!

No, we've always had sick people. The real problem is the guns that these people can get, or the criminal element, to do mayhem with. This is just yet - another example.

More gun grabber nonsense.

Don't know but all the more reason for law abiding folks to have their own.....because......................the police CANNOT protect you...they never could. Police protection is an oxymoron.

I count 10 holes.......a guy could do that with many types of guns.

Do you really think making them illegal will get them off the street and prevent gangs from acquiring them? Hilariously asinine!

Re: The Assault Rifle Does it Again

More gun grabber nonsense.

So a guy with an AR ratta-tat-tating, killing and injuring people on the street is "gun grabber nonsense".

And by "keeps being used" they mean four.

Four times.

Uh, that was just in that article.

But, you don't care right? As long as you can have any gun you want - it's okay.

No, punishing law abiding citizens for the actions of criminals, while doing nothing to improve public safety. In fact, damaging it. THAT'S, gun grabber nonsense.
