The debate in Ann Arbor, where firefighters are being laid off due to a multimillion dollar budget deficit, is over an $850,000 piece of art....

Ann Arbor City Council member Stephen Kunselman, a Democrat, opposed the art deal.

Good for him! This is a perfect example of morons holding the purse strings in many local cities.

Not defending the sculpture(it's the wrong time to do things like that), but have you been to Ann Arbor? Really awesome city with an emphasis on things like art to make it so. All of Ann Arbor and the UM campus are simply great places to visit.

Shows the inability of elected officlals to adapt to changing times.

Shows the cynicism of the ruling class.

The voters don't want to be taxed to pay for unnecesarry spending? The voters want government to stop spending so much? Fine, then, let's cut back on the services a government is supposed to provide, like cops, and force those yahoos to accept higher taxes to pay for them. Meanwhile, we'll keep our buddies fed and their stupid useless projects on line.

That's all this is.

Whenever a city is cutting the cop budget, the people should be looking closely at what's behind the mayor's limo.
