The Arab Claims of Palestine
Palestine, as they know from the Koran and tradition, was the land in which Abraham lived, an extremely important ancestral figure for the Arabs. To possess the land which Abraham roamed, assumes great religious significance. Especially important in Arab eyes is to have control of Hebron, the town in which Abraham, together with most of his family, was buried. However they only learned about Hebron from Muhammad, a considerable time later after the Jews had already been conducting active worship at the tomb of Abraham for centuries.
