Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-Calif.), perhaps unsatisfied with the misery of rolling blackouts to which ill-considered climate restrictions have subjected Californians, has ordered that no new gas-powered cars shall be sold in California beginning in the year 2035. What could possibly go wrong?

California “is phasing out the internal combustion engine,” the governor tweeted in announcing his sweeping executive order. “By 2035 every new car sold in CA will be an emission free vehicle. Cars shouldn’t give our kids asthma. Make wildfires worse. Melt glaciers. Or raise sea levels.”

I can only assume he plans to use tax money to subsidize the poor. Presumably, your car payment will be determined by means testing like they do with welfare. Or just go on welfare because you can’t get to work.

Who the bleep knows?

It's funny that the know-nothings make a big deal out this. Like everything.

Imagine what is going to happen to their power grid when they start plugging in all those new electric cars. Coupled with an end to fossil fuel creation in California?

But then...by 2035 who knows what Cali will look like. Hell...when you are all homeless, sleeping on sidewalks, and shitting in the streets you probably wont have much of a need for a car at all.

Look at it this way. Socialist Newsom's latest power grab will hasten his demise when the recall him referendum goes on the ballot in November.

The governor of California is a drooling nut job.

It is not a terrible goal, but I am still convinced we are destroying way too much just to get to the raw materials to have nothing but battery powered cars. This is aside from the issue of battery disposal, and dealing with a power grid to handle recharging all those vehicles.

From my chair we are exchanging one set of problems for another when going for a political goal absent all the technology / advancements to make this plausible.

Republicans are all for states rights......until they aren't....

Is he on this ballot?

Not yet. They are still collecting signatures but I would think his latest utopian expressed rhetoric could get a referendum in time to put it on the ballot.

The guy is an absolute moron. One good thing, he can't remain governor that long and someone will come along and eventually realize that crap won't work. BTW, what kind of car is ole Gavin riding around in now?

If you live in CA and you need a new gas-powered car in 2035 to stick it to the Hated Libruls, you can buy it in another state and drive it over the border.

Using the thread title of 2035. I would expect that 2032 though 2034 will be a banner year for new car sales in CA.
