Of course, you do....

You won't blame him if a friend or family's life is on the line, and they are saved by the availability of the ships on both the left and right coasts.
Stop not blaming Trump for everything! :2mad:

And? It is what it is.

YOU "blame the Commander-in-Chief." (As usual, no surprise there.)

What's the gripe this time?
Trump = LITERALLY Nearly Empty Hospital Ship Hitler

So you’re saying the US military is bad at its job, eh?
I've been in the military in one form or another since 2002. It is absolutely an inefficient mechanism, and it's healthcare definitely follows suit. Like the rest of government, it is only good at solving the problems that only it can solve. Need to destroy wide swathes of the Iranian coastal defense capability? Check Rog - we got that. Need efficient allocation of resources in a timely manner that is highly responsive to conditions on the ground? Nopety Nope Nope. We'll do our best, and everyone means well and is trying hard, but  government isn't efficient at that sort of thing. We can mostly only even be effective by throwing vast resources at a problem, and hoping some stick.

The Comfort was scheduled to dock in NY Harbor long before news of the Corona breakout in China. Its presence here had nothing to do with treating virus victims and still doesn't. This is what happens when media BS flies. It docked here for resupply, with a crew trained for trauma response, not treatment of virus victims.
Trump attended the sendoff of the ship in VA and said it was being sent to NY as part of the "war with an invisible enemy."

Trump calls USNS Comfort leaving for New York a '''message of hope and solidarity''' - ABC News

"As we gather today, our country is at war with an invisible enemy. We are marshaling the full power of American nation economic, scientific, medical and military to vanquish the virus," Trump said at Naval Station Norfolk in Virginia. "And we will do that."

"This great ship behind me is a 70,000-ton message of hope and solidarity to the incredible people of New York," he added.

Blame Cuomo. He should be coordinating with the hospitals to move less serious patients to the ship.
From what I've read they are trying, but the ship won't accept COVID 19 patients, and so anyone they send there has to be cleared of infection with CV19 and dozens of other conditions that make them ineligible for being treated on the ship. So the process is difficult. The patients have to first go to a regular hospital or other health facility, and be seen, and then tested and cleared, which might take days, THEN NY is allowed to send the patients to the Comfort.

What should happen is the pipeline fills up in a few days and the ship proves useful in taking non-CV19 patients to a facility where there is no risk of infection, or less risk at least, given the difficulty in testing and identifying those infected before they show symptoms.

Thank you. :applaud

Trump is not "in charge" of what's happening in either NYC or NY State.
He is in charge of the rules for who gets to be treated on the Comfort. He's literally The Boss, CIC, and what he says goes. NYC and NYS would rather the rules are different, but Trump through his subordinates established the rules. You understand how chain of command works in the military, and Cuomo and De Blasio aren't part of that chain.

There is a city Mayor named De Blasio, and a state Governor named Cuomo.

As Trump has said, the Federal government is providing support to the State and Local governments. But he is (currently) letting them do their thing.

Seems like many people want Trump and the Feds to take over completely. Funny when many of those same people can't give him credit for anything, but are fully willing to lay all the blame on him.

Even funnier that they've claimed all along he want's to be a dictator, meanwhile he is actively trying to avoid using dictatorial powers.
What's funny is you aren't willing to hold Trump accountable for the rules established for the Comfort.

Seriously? You're going to blame the media for accurately reporting what the President is saying about why that ship was sent to NY? It's FAKE NEWS to cover the events and record his words?

Confidence is pretty high that Donald Trump had zero involvement with "establishing the rules" for the Comfort.

The hospital ships on each coast are a good thing. Sounds like they are being very cautious about screening patients who are boarding the vessels. Seems prudent. The procedures will become more efficient and fluid over time.

Whether he was involved or not, he is the Boss and so shifting any blame to NYS or NYC for the low patient load at the Comfort is just nonsense. There's a low patient count because the tight restrictions on who gets to be sent there are slowing the process. I'm indifferent about whether the rules are appropriate or not - I don't have the information to make that call.

The main restriction is no COVID 19 patients. There is a new Abbot test that can give results in 5-15 minutes. Seems like it up to DeBlasio and Cuomo to make sure the New York hospitals start transferring patients to the Comfort. Since the ship has bunk beds for patient beds it seems like a great idea not to crowd a bunch of infected patents into the ship. Trump has provided the resource its up to Cuomo and Deblasio to make sure its used.

If so then why send it to New York at all? Oh, wait a minute. I know why. It made for great photo op for President Trump 'seeing it off', even though the travel there by the President was ill-advised.

USNS Comfort Hospital Ship Was Supposed to Aid New York. It Has 3 Patients. - The New York Times

“It’s a joke,” said a top hospital executive, whose facilities are packed with coronavirus patients.

Such were the expectations for the Navy hospital ship U.S.N.S. Comfort that when it chugged into New York Harbor this week, throngs of people, momentarily forgetting the strictures of social distancing, crammed together along Manhattan’s west side to catch a glimpse.

On Thursday, though, the huge white vessel, which officials had promised would bring succor to a city on the brink, sat mostly empty, infuriating executives at local hospitals. The ship’s 1,000 beds are largely unused, its 1,200-member crew mostly idle.
=====================================================
This is a Navy ship. I blame the Commander-in-Chief - Trump - for the lack of an adequate resonse here. 'I'm not responsible' - Donald Trump.
It was pretty much the same deal when Trump made a big deal about sending it Puerto Rico in the aftermath of hurricane Maria. There it averaged admitting and treating just 6 patients a day. It probably used more resources while docked there then what it provided. It was practically pointless.

.... you think that a U.S. Navy Vessel isn't owned or directed by the U.S. Government?
That wasn’t my point, and you know it. What I responded to was, the argument that this case reveals the inadequacies of government run health care. In reality, this is a display of the ineptitude of this administration in dealing with the pandemic.

No government organization is without it’s faults, but your description is insulting and wrong. Frankly, you come across as someone who doesn’t have much (or any) personal experience with our military.

Absolutely, our military is very good at neutralizing threats.

Our military is also very good at mobilizing quickly and responding to humanitarian disasters around the world.

“Humanitarian assistance and disaster response are core DoD capabilities, but they are always conducted in a supporting role to assist other U.S. Government agencies. DoD has the assets and experience to deploy necessary relief personnel and resources to all corners of the globe at a moment’s notice—there is no actor better prepared to respond in times of crisis.

We have seen the positive impact of DoD’s efforts on the broader U.S. Government response to international disasters in a number of cases:

In Operation Tomodochi, after the Japanese earthquake and tsunami in 2011—U.S. forces were instrumental in delivering food, water, blankets, clothing, and medical supplies to support Japanese civilian and military partners.
During Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines, Service Members were on the ground working with the Philippine military to provide essential medical treatment and supplies.
During the Ebola epidemic in West Africa, Service Members were involved in constructing treatment centers and providing logistical support to stem the spread of infection.
In the aftermath of the devastating 2015 Nepal earthquake, U.S. military personnel were instrumental in supporting relief efforts with transportation and medical treatment, and where previous training exercises with the Nepalese military significant improved their capacity to respond to the crisis.
These engagements have provided invaluable hands-on experience for service members that helps improve our future contributions to disaster relief efforts. They demonstrate time and again the value of our partnership-building activities, as partner nations have improved their disaster response capabilities after joining U.S. military in training exercises.”

Military Aids Disaster Response Effort in the Aftermath of Hurricane Florence
Military Aids Disaster Response Effort in the Aftermath of Hurricane Florence > U.S. DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE > Defense Department News

“Though it rarely does disaster relief at home, the U.S. military frequently responds to emergencies abroad. Between 1970 and 2000, American troops provided international humanitarian assistance and disaster relief 366 times”
Military mission in Puerto Rico after hurricane was better than critics say but suffered flaws

“One of the Army's core missions -- global engagement -- was on high display in 2017, and not just in the form of military exercises with allies from Australia to Poland. From treating medical maladies in Djibouti, to providing pediatric care in Honduras and offering veterinary clinics in South Africa, the Army contributed to global and national security through tangible humanitarian assistance.”

Since when does any civilian authority maintain control of a USN ship?

They clearly arent even watching the daily briefings if they are bitching about the ship beds being empty.
They watch them just enough to have something to bitch about.

Blame the Commander-in-Chief?
Blame him for what? Right now, It's there to serve as hospital overflow for non Covid-19 work, for if and when the hospitals become overwhelmed.

Am I going to get mad that someone tried to think ahead for once? Or, that they're being careful not to transfer Covid-19 patients on by mistake?

Even if you just caught part of one....you would know what the ship is doing there and how it is to be used. It was explained in extreme detail over and over and over. How these people don't know what is going on is worth studying. It's fascinating ignorance. All they know is pure hate. The hospital ships purpose and function is 100% logical.
