None of that matters because when you work for the NFL your equipment has to be insured.
NFL won't even hire stringers or freelancers who cannot be insured or who don't have their own policy in place.
So either the league insures you or you're already insured.
And if McCarthy damaged anything, it's the league's dime in most cases, and the camera op gets a new lens.
If the camera op gets injured, same thing, and insurance companies HAVE battled it out with the NFL on quite a few occasions and the NFL more often than not has had to pay out on a claim.

What McCarthy did or didn’t do is actually totally relevant to the “McCarthy Incident.”
