Texas Republicans defend county GOP leader as group pushes to oust him because he is Muslim

A proposal to remove a Texas county GOP leader from his post because he is Muslim is being met with forceful opposition from Republicans on the county, state and national level, ahead of a vote this week. The Tarrant County Republican Party is scheduled to decide Thursday whether to keep Shahid Shafi, who was appointed vice chairman of the county GOP in July. His ratification received near unanimous support from the group's executive committee.

The lone dissenter, however, created a small group that brought forth a motion to oust Shafi, Jeremy Bradford, executive director of the Tarrant County GOP, told CNN. Tarrant County includes the city of Forth Worth.

Glad to see some integrity in the GOP.

We discussed this here a few months back, O'Brien( and unknown supporters, by name or count) being the only person who is pushing this.

I never understand why people do something like this because of someone's religion.

It's pretty sad.

And that it's often from people who are supposedly very religious themselves, is hypocritical.

The evangelicals we have here think this is a christian nation, and they believe in the supremacy of their iron age war god.

THey seriously think their delusional acceptance of nonsense as fact is somehow superior to a Muslim's delusional acceptance of nonsense as fact.

Good job Texas GOP. Way to shut down your fringe.

Texas Republicans reject vote to oust GOP leader because he is Muslim

A bid to remove a Texas county GOP leader from his post because he is Muslim has been rejected.

The Tarrant County Republican Party voted on Thursday to keep Dr. Shahid Shafi in his post as vice chairman, according to the Star-Telegram.

In a video posted on the Star-Telegram's website, Mike Snyder of the Tarrant County Republican Party announced, "the vote total was 139 to support Dr. Shafi and only 49 to reject him."

I'm glad the majority ended up defending the guy by rejecting the vote, however, the 49 still should be concerning.
