Classic. One of the election planks agreed and voted through by the Texas Republican Party asserts that most Texans are gay. The importance of grammar was never more neatly underscored, or indeed, the placement of a simple comma!

" ...The plank that was approved by delegates at the party's convention this month reads: "Homosexuality is a chosen behavior that is contrary to the fundamental unchanging truths that has been ordained by God in the Bible, recognized by our nations founders, and shared by the majority of Texans." ..."

If they only passed more laws, this could have been avoided. And now they have a bunch of Brokeback Mountain cowboys running around. Will someone think of the kids (and bathrooms!)

Well, the Texas Republicans did have an item in their election plank once that said they wanted to get rid of teaching kids critical thinking in school. (back in 2012)

The text from the plank is --
"Homosexuality is a chosen behavior that is contrary to the fundamental unchanging truths that has been ordained by God in the Bible, recognized by our nations founders, and shared by the majority of Texans."

Obviously what they are saying is being gay is a choice and it is contrary to etc.. etc.. and that view is shared by the majority of Texans.

While I don't really agree with their plank, it is obviously does not say that the majority of Texans are gay.

It's more fun the other way. Clearly they didn't mean that, however, it does say...

As the man says, their reactionary past suggests that your interpretation was what they meant, but that's not what they actually said!

You've heard of the Oxford comma before, no? You're from England where this usage is most popular.

This is a rather silly way to try to sound smarter than Texans.

the bible bans sodomy altogether, homosexuality just falls under that umbrella. So why dont they spend more time and money banning blowjobs?

One problem is the confusing truths/has. What follows is a three-point series--contrary..., recognized..., and shared.

And the United States is only one nation.

Freudian slip! Yeah, I think most Texans are just curious, but the ignorance is what makes it comedy gold.

Weird that Reuters believes that every Texas Republican was 1) at the convention and 2) supported the plank. Otherwise, it would be an error grammar to write: "Texas Republicans believe .......".
Perhaps they, Reuters, doesn't understand representative democracies. Or that a subset of a group does not represent the whole group.

Let's break this down shall we?

Homosexuality is a chosen behavior that is:

1) contrary to the fundamental unchanging truths that has been ordained by God in the Bible

2) recognized by our nations founders

3) shared by the majority of Texans

Manc Skipper got it right. Nothing but steers, queers, and I.

We should blame all of this on the public education system.
