Texas mom, gun advocate, killed by cops after shooting daughters - NY Daily News

Let the madness end. There must be a way.

Re: Texas mom, a vocal gun rights advocate, killed by cops after killing her girls

I don't think the madness of vilifying gun owners or their supporters by the left will end until they can respect disagreements and honor the fact that many Americans want to protect their constitutional rights.

what a goddamn awful evil woman, I am an atheist so I do not believe in hell but in cases like this I would hope there is one so this evil DOB can burn in hell (daughter of a bitch).

Re: Texas mom, a vocal gun rights advocate, killed by cops after killing her girls

Just another routine gun nut killing, nothing unusual here, move along!

Another mentally unstable person who didn't receive proper treatment. I know, let's blame an inanimate object instead of fixing our mental healthcare system!

stop the fibbing-nothing routine about that at all even though the Bannerrhoid movement wants to pretend this is usual.

Not an evil woman, just a sick one. From what I could tell from the article Nota Bene posted, the woman was mentally ill. My unprofessional guess is, she was a paranoid schizophrenic who thought she was fighting off intruders, probably believing them to be threats to her daughters. Her social media suggested an obsession with their safety.

I think there are many people like myself that aren't interested in taking away your guns. I am in favor of common sense measures that allow for mandatory licensing. My position is reasonably simple. If you need a license to operate a deadly vehicle and a test to be able to drive, then it is reasonable to expect a person to demonstrate they know how to operate and store a deadly weapon.

I realize this will immediately rankle many here including our resident testudine, but on some level, SOMETHING has to change. The definition of insanity applies here.

There are other mitigating factors it appears in this case. Her state of mind obviously

Would that have prevented this crime? Probably not. Would it prevent other crimes and save lives? The reasonable answer is yes.

As to assault weapons, even Ronnie was against them. They are designed for a single purpose. Hardly something one needs lying around.

I can appreciate good irony in that she feared not being able to protect her family, yet the largest threat to her family was herself.

That aside, this is no different than some democratic politicians (Senators Fienstein and Schumer among them) who while calling for large restrictions on weapons, have quietly applied for concealed carry permits for themselves.

Likewise, Schumer and probably Feinstien, have armed body guards provided by the local police forces where they reside.

1. There's no Constitutional right to drive a car.

2. "Assault Weapons" can be used to hunt, target shoot, etc. Just like every other gun.

Re: Texas mom, a vocal gun rights advocate, killed by cops after killing her girls

Isn't mental illness and gun ownership one of the major issues that people want addressed?

It should be addressed and evaluated in a matter of fact manner. Is the answer better mental health care? Is the answer a better reporting system for health care professionals to ATF (or wherever) There need to be pragmatic solutions...ones that do not create more problems than they solve.

But clearly one answer has to be making folks comfortable accessing mental health care. And clearly they will not access it if they feel they will have they job, or other such negative outcomes.

No clue what the answer is. But stats and research are needed to develop a plan.

Awesomely stated, couldn't have said it better.

I disagree, if you slaughter your children you are evil and should burn in hell.

Shooting down balloons is child's play. No pun intended.

Serious problems take serious solutions. That means give and take. No one is threatened by safety measures.

One thing is certain, if something doesn't change it's illogical to assume the situation will.

how is mandatory licensing going to have a "commons sense" reduction of crime when criminals cannot own any firearm

You feel change is needed but you cannot establish the CHANGE you want will do any good. Ronnie was senile when he said that

and you ARE either ignorant or telling a lie when you claim that "assault weapons" (whatever that means-I bet you cannot understand that what makes something an assault weapon are cosmetic features that have no relevance to crime) only have one purpose

Need has nothing to do with constitutional rights.

He cannot even define what an assault weapon is--the Bannerrhoids in californa wrote an AW ban that included 3000 dollar 5 shot (with no higher round magazine available) target pistols that were purpose built for the event called Olympic rapid fire pistol.

And how does your plan of making people take tests to own guns prevent this crime? Do you honestly think that safety tests will prevent crazy people from killing people? It simply makes no sense that your proposal would do anything in these cases.

I don't mean to generalize(okay maybe I do), but every time I come into a gun thread and see someone with a lean of "Liberal" it generally means they have no idea what they are talking about. This is simply another case of that. Its almost as if they just think they should be against guns because they say they are Liberal. Yet, they never actually thought it through logically.

not all liberals/progressives/socialists/Democrats are gun banners but almost every single gun banner is left wing

Re: Texas mom, a vocal gun rights advocate, killed by cops after killing her girls

BTW this is an assault weapon under California law because its semi auto and as a pistol the magazine is located forward of the grip. It costs several thousand dollars and has only one use-ISSF rapid fire pistol competitions

I didn't say anything about reduction of crime. You did. The idea of responsible gun storage is to help prevent accidental gun deaths. You know, the ones that seem to happen daily because someone didn't store the gun properly. I suppose one could call this a crime too, the irresponsible parent being the criminal. (this incident obviously doesn't apply, if you got that impression then mea culpa)

You feel change is needed but you cannot establish the CHANGE you want will do any good.

I believe I just did. Are you actually going to suggest that if mandatory firearm training wouldn't save lives by reducing accidental shootings?

If so, than I would suggest I am not the one being dishonest here. I prefer not to go there.

and you ARE either ignorant or telling a lie when you claim that "assault weapons" (whatever that means-I bet you cannot understand that what makes something an assault weapon are cosmetic features that have no relevance to crime) only have one purpose

Why the accusations? I was under the impression your game was more elevated than that. Surely with your experience and training you can bring something better than that. You know me well enough to know where I am coming from is sincere. I realize you get hyped on this topic, but c'mon man, This is so beneath you.

Ronnie was senile when he said that

Careful, that one will haunt you.

It was less than two years before his famous call for the ban on assault weapons that Ronnie uttered the even more famous right wing mantra "Bring Down that Wall!? Surely he didn't go senile is that quickly?

Reagan had good reason to feel the way he did. I have a distinct feeling that having been shot might had a lot to do with it.
