"A group representing the state’s LGBTQ Republicans blasted the Texas Republican Convention as a bunch of “crazy people.” The tough words come in response to a new state party platform that includes language calling homosexuality “an abnormal lifestyle choice.” “These are just crazy people,” said Michael Cargill, who owns an Austin gun store and is the acting chairman of the Log Cabin Republicans of Texas. “It’s a small minority of people that are being un-Christian-like and spewing this hateful language. At its biennial convention in Houston, one speaker said it is important to call “a spade a spade.” Another said she supports calling homosexuality “abnormal behavior because it is.” Some members opposed the language, with one saying it was bad for the party. Attempts to soften the language were voted down. “We’re the Republican Party of Texas,” the delegate said in protest. “We’re not the Westboro Baptist Church.”

Well, you folks are very much like Westboro Church, you just have been in denial because the quiet part wasn't being said loud enough...now it is...and no, it is not a small minority...because that small minority of people sure managed to include this into your GOP platform:

That sure sounds like something Westboro Baptist would say.....That same "small minority of people" also managed to make a gay Texas Platform committee member have a total meltdown......does he not know what party he belonged to all this time? Did he think he was safe -- or -- is he just willing to hate himself enough for tax cuts and deregulation?

@CLAX1911 here's more news about your friends.

I started a thread a few weeks ago about this, prior to the adoption of the TX GOP platform. At that time, the TX GOP had simply refused the Log Cabin Republicans entry to their event. But that is not unusual, they do that every year.

Some people claimed that you can't change a group from the outside. Well, it seems the Log Cabin Republicans have never been on the inside, so not sure if that argument holds water.

Deafening silence from righties. They must not have gotten their marching orders on this one.

What's all this about? I voted for Trump twice and I still love gay people. Honestly some of you need to grow up.

Lemmi: I love gay people.
Also Lemmi: I vote against their fundamental rights.

What I meant to say was I support abortion rights for gay people. Although I'm not sure how that works biologically.

"It's small minority" he says as it is literally voted on by a majority and adopted as the official party platform.

And not in the way they want.

it's time to get those grinder aps out on the GOP conveitons in Texas to see who is the hypocrite.
The ones that scream about "teh ga-heyz" the loudest always have a rent boy stashed somewhere or at least a very heavy Grindr browsing profile.

The reason that there are so many is that there is repression going on, and they can't come out of the closet in their social circles.

We're dealing with one of many who are convinced that you can "teach a person to become gay"...as if homosexuality is some kind of virus or germ.
It's the year 2022 and these people still exist in large numbers, just like in the Dark Ages when millions still insisted that the Sun revolves around the Earth and that Earth was the center of the Universe.
Over in another thread @gboisjo insists the same thing, that gayness is a learned behavior.
I asked him "when did YOU decide to be straight?" and guess what?
He won't respond!
What a surprise.

As previous legal issues surrounding gay rights and currently with abortion, it's clear many people still have a Dark Ages mentality, as if they never caught up with society. And some want society to regress backwards.

There is a pretty much set number of homosexuals in the world, always has been, always will be.
No different than there being a set number of blue eyed people or people who do not have free swinging earlobes.
If that wasn't the case then the blue-eyed people with attached earlobes would have taken over, or the brown-eyed people with free swinging earlobes would have wiped out the blue-eyed ones.

Or four leaf clovers would have eradicated the three leaf clovers a billion years ago.
Genetics works for a reason, and if you cannot believe that homosexuality is mostly genetic, then it means that you don't trust genetics to do what it's been doing since long before human beings even existed.
And time is not on "your" side with "your" ignorance.***

Genetics will still be a fact long after we and our progeny are dust and ashes millions of generations hence.
And since homosexuality makes it impossible for the species to reproduce you can count on genetics to keep the number low.

If homosexuality was a learned behavior or some kind of disease, the human race would have been utterly wiped out millennia ago, many MANY millennia ago.
The kind of mindset that fails to recognize these facts is definitely an immature one.

And not in the way they want.

When i log in to Grindr in places like Austin, I can usually tell who the Republican law makers are, got a few tips in picking them out, from an escort friend of mine, long time Austin resident.

They always log in late after the wife has gone to bed.

I can hear the straight guys here logging off now 😂. It's ok my straight friends, it's not contagious.

I will say this.....just demonizing gay people for being gay is no longer feasible....we have at least come that far...which is why right-wingers have stepped it up a notch and simply linked gay people to pedophilia....its a lot easier to demonize gay people if you simply just call them pedos...and if you want to make sure gays don't have much support from the straight community -- just call anyone who is an ally to gay rights, just call them all groomers...that will keep em quiet...

I dunno what kind of cognitive dissonance someone has to go through to be gay and support the party that tried to pass a constitutional amendment that would set back their rights for many generations.

Love the thread title.

Log Cabin Republican are like sheep playing with wolves, acting surprised when they get eaten.
Yep - have a hard time believing any sane Republican is shocked by their fringe going mainstream. This shit's been developing since 2012, and it's either been openly supported or tacitly so.

Playing the devil's advocate, it would be the same cog diss that makes gay people believe being gay is OK. Rep/cons believe being gay (LGBTQ) is just plain wrong.
