Texas Gov. Greg Abbott to skip NRA convention, return to Uvalde, instead

I've heard many are cancelling their appearance. If the NRA was politically astute they, themselves, would cancel the event.
I hope they continue to let their freak flag fly proudly. Keep parading dumbass Trump, lickspittle Cruz, and other miserable shits in front of a camera to proclaim their love of guns while the families grieve and bury their children.

Show the nation who you really are.

By purchasing 2 AR-15's on his 18th birthday, the legal defense for the Uvalde School Shooter could have made a compelling argument that he was responding to Governor Abbott's public challenge to Texans to regain the dubious honor as America's #1 for new gun purchases!

Words have consequences, and had the Uvalde Shooter lived, any good defense lawyer(s) would have argued that the Texas Governor's "ill-advised tweet" encouraged their client to make these purchases - making him an unwitting accessory!

Their client couldn't have engaged in the "mass shootings" if the Governor of the state hadn't encouraged a young impressionable teenager to purchase them - to prevent Abbott and Texas further embarrassment!

What, and risk missing an opportunity to sell even more guns for the gun makers? Never happen, just as long as brain-dead rednecks are in charge of shilling for the gun makers.

People don't always act in ways you would expect when they feel threatened. Sometimes if they think they're being pushed back, they will dig in their heels.

Your conclusion doesn't logically follow from your premise.

Premise: if the governor didn't do x then
Conclusion: their client wouldn't have done y.

Yesterday Abbott was roundly and rightly booed by a grieving community:

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott was booed Sunday by a crowd outside Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, where 21 people, including 19 children, were killed by a gunman last week in the deadliest school shooting in nearly a decade.

"Shame on you, Abbott," someone in the crowd yelled, Reuters reports, as the Republican approached a makeshift memorial, where mourners laid bouquets of flowers below a sign that says "Bienvenidos" ("Welcome," in Spanish) below the school's name.

"We need help, Governor Abbott," another person yelled.

"Texas Gov. Greg Abbott will skip Friday's National Rifle Association convention and instead make a return trip to Uvalde, the rural town devastated by an elementary school shooting this week, his office said Thursday evening.

Abbott, who is seeking re-election in November, will record video remarks that will be shown at the NRA event in Houston, a spokesman for the governor told NBC News. He had been scheduled to speak in person.

In Uvalde, Abbott is scheduled to hold a news conference after a meeting with state and local officials, as well as town residents."

I'm going out on a limb here and suggest that the speech will not be posted on the internet so we can all see what he has to say to the NRA. But it sounds like the Beto appearance at his press conference the other day has rattled him.

I'm sure his news conference will bring comfort and joy to the victim's families. He can brag about how important it is to fund mental health and then explain why he cut the mental health budget.

Saying it once for each of the Uvalde Texas massacre victims.

Saying it because it is true.

“I'm EMBARRASSED: Texas #2 in nation for new gun purchases, behind CALIFORNIA. Let's pick up the pace Texans.” ~ Governor Candidate Gregg Abbott October 28, 2015

“You could say that I signed into law today some laws that protect gun rights. But today, I signed documents that instilled freedom in the Lone Star State.” ~ Governor Gregg Abbott June 17, 2021

"It is believed that he abandoned his vehicle then entered into the Robb Elementary School in Uvalde with a handgun and he may have also had a rifle. He shot and killed, horrifically and incomprehensibly, 14 students and killed a teacher.” ~ Governor Gregg Abbott May 24, 2022

Acceptable Collateral Damage for ensuring “Freedom in the Lone Star State”.

Right, Guv?

Abbott is just another Republican hypocrite for not showing up to the NRA convention!
