Texas Republicans recently unveiled a policy platform that includes a statement of support for legislation that would make it a felony to issue a marriage license to same-sex couples as well as for an official to perform a marriage ceremony for gay partners wishing to wed.

The 25-page proposal debuted last week as a guiding light for the state GOP over the next two years defines its position by saying:

Marriage Licenses - We support legislation that would make it a felony to issue a marriage license to a same-sex couple and for any civil official to perform a marriage ceremony for such.

The proposal from Republicans in the Lone Star state makes the following claims related to the party's view of homosexuality:

•"We believe that the practice of homosexuality tears at the fabric of society, contributes to the breakdown of the family unit, and leads to the spread of dangerous, communicable diseases."
•"Homosexual behavior is contrary to the fundamental, unchanging truths that have beenordained by God, recognized by our country's founders, and shared by the majority of Texans."
•"Homosexuality must not be presented as an acceptable "alternative" lifestyle in our public education and policy, nor should "family" be redefined to include homosexual "couples."

I don't care much for Texas politics ... at all ... but this kind of backlash is predictable given the rhetoric from the pro-GM side.
 
Oh the rhetoric that every person should be able to ruin their lives with marriages? This isn't backlash at all.

Texas has had this as part of their platform since... well, a long time. They want to overturn Lawrence v. Texas and reinstitute laws banning sodomy. (sodomy being specifically related to same-sex contact)

Among this squabbling over the "Worst State Ever" title, Texas just laughs and goes back to what they've been doing all along. As if anyone could ever dethrone them...

That or because a gay person convinces the husband/wife that they are truly gay and forces them to get a divorce in order to go run away together.

How do you suppose that they shall enforce the ban on all pornography? Is that even possible?

Before Lawrence vs. Texas, the sodomy law included M&F couples. If I recall, fellatio in a M&F marriage was also against the State laws at the time. idiots!

It's not a strawman when this politician is blaming gays for the breakdown of society when the divorce rate is 50% for straight couples. Seems there is already a breakdown in society and it has NOTHING to do with gays.

Really. Next to Florida, we probably have more strip clubs per capita than anywhere else in the nation.

No I'm not suggesting that. Where do you even get that from? It's a straw man because divorce rate among straights has nothing to do with the quality of gay marriages. It's like my saying "Your Lincoln gets lousy gas mileage" and you respond, "So does your Cadillac." It has no bearing on the lousy Lincoln.

Your correct reponse should be, "people in glass houses...." and leave it at that. Because if you think you can tear down traditional marriage and repace it with gay marriage, you are wrong. And it just begs the question, if marriage is so bad, why do gays want it in the first place?

Can me where anyone is trying to force you into gay marriage, I mean that would be REPLACING it right... poor choice of words.
 
Another reason why I left, the Republican party... for good. When you place your religion ahead of your conservatism in political matters...Well, thats when things start to go downhill. I believe, the protection of the founders' view of the constitution should be the most important principle of the Right NOT, the continued religious right's efforts directed at right-to-life and heterosexual marriage issues.

Church law should be left at the church door. Period
 
Hmm. I am envisioning Larry Craig, along with a host of other Republicans, wearing prison stripes, while shouting "We aren't gay. We just suck a little dick sometimes". :mrgreen:
 
Ah yes, Texas, the South Carolina of the far south. I think Texas is here because every state should have one that it can look down on. "we may have problems, but at least we are not Texas".
