Texas GOP congressman: Federal disaster aid will help homeowners with high utility bills

Explain to me how the cost to produce electricity when up as high as it did? The utilities played the old supply/demand excuse to raise rates.
- The consumer has some responsibility in they signed up for the "wholesale" plan
- Utilities should be paid a reasonable amount. I am not saying the consumer gets a free ride.

This is exactly what happened in California during the Bush years. Except the power companies (namely Enron), with assistance from political leaders and Wall Street insiders, purposefully created an energy crisis, lied to shut power grids down, raised prices, and then artificially hiked stocks as the western United States was bilked of more than $1 billion. People involved agreed to shut down energy services to California for several hours during peak energy demand for "maintenance." Because of the money they made, they eventually presented rolling blackouts. In the meantime, the politicians in California passed deregulation.

- Before its passage, between June and December 2000, there was 1 blackout.
- After its passage, California suffered 38 blackouts before federal regulators intervened in June 2001.

The issue in Texas is also man-made, but it appears more about stupid ideology than some malicious scheme to swindle and screw over Americans. Today, the players on high appear to just be taking advantage of it. And after it is over, they will go on to present power grids that are maintained on the cheap, not prepared for disasters, and eagerly awaiting the next episode in which they will swindle again.

In the meantime, Texans will continue to allow it. They will go on to promote how great they are for their lack of state taxes and true representation of what a free American is before begging tax payers around the country for government assistance again. You see, Californians have wildfires because they do it to themselves and should not receive aid. But Texas? Oh, Texas needs a handout because they are Americans. The partisan rationale is ridiculous.

You're correct. If my memory serves me correctly, didn't some of the Enron pricks end up punished for their dirty deeds?

There needs to be a Congressional hearing scheduled for ERCOT and PUC of Texas asap. The guilty need to do their perp walk as well.

there's a sweet spot for regulation / deregulation. Texas ****ed that up completely. the rest of the country should definitely help out those who are suffering. however, something has got to change there.

Some were scapegoated and most were slapped on the wrist. The majority were rewarded. Wendy Gramm, the "high priestess of deregulation" since Reagan, walked free. By the time of the 2007 banking melt-down, all these names would be presented again.

All of it stemmed from Reagan's wish to deregulate banks (by appointing Wendy Gramm, a de-regulation sympathizer, to "monitor" regulation), so-called free-market Republicans and Bill Clinton to dismantle Glass-Steagall in late 1999, and Bush's Administration pushing for ever more deregulation. In the end, Republicans and Democrats blamed each other wrongly, and the architects of American disaster, who were chastised by Obama on the campaign trail, were later quickly appointed by Obama to "fix" it.

And when McCain and Warren came together to create legislation to re-establish Glass-Steagall and re-insert regulation, the mass of the Republicans and Democrats fought them.

I remember reading that as the walls were falling in, the top brass was unloading their stock (ENRON,) while forbidding the rank and file employees from doing the same.

DON'T READ THIS IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO ENGAGE CRITICAL THINKING, BECAUSE ITS NOT FLATTERING, IT ADDRESSING TRUTHS THAT ARE HARD TO DIGEST.

At some point maybe "White People" will by the forced process of continually being ripped off, might figure out that "Privatization and Lack of Regulatory Governance" was never designed to be in favor of the citizen population.
Mostly, what history has shown and demonstrated; which is truly sad to say, but its true only because it true. "White People don't awaken to face truth, until it hits them in the Pocketbook or they face Incarceration's".

We've seen it even with the Pandemic, they deny and fight against the protective guidance, UNTIL, it enters their home and wipes one or more of them out.

They are very slow to learn... many of the things black people have talked about for more than 100 yrs, of what it takes to advance Society to Civic and Civil Respect of Person and make American Democracy Respect All Citizens as Person who is an Individual.... some are only now facing the fact to learn what it means. They no longer get "White Skin Privileges'" as they thought, because they are finding out "White Privilege's was designed for the Well to Do and Wealthy"... the White Skin Accessibility the Poor and Working Poor White People got, was nothing more than a means to ensure they could "bury themselves in Credit Debt" to guarantee they remain in a format and framework of Serfdom. With that process, they could easily be "contained" by "gerrymandering, to ensure they continue to put their wealth masters in political seats".

It's the damn'est thing, because after 100's of years of the same game, they never figured it out. If they were critical thinkers, they be gratefully appreciates of the progressive minds of people who promote the liberality of principles of Democracy. But many, still do not have the strength of mind or attention span to break beyond the containment structure of Confederacy Ideology, to become independent enough thinkers to come to such understanding.
They've been trained to think in terms of "sweep it under the rug" and put their truth in their wealth masters... so they go about with the giddiness of foolishness, to think the perpetual access to credit debt is making them feel they are superior, when what they are superior as is being "indebt" perpetually. Many working jobs that they no longer have a "union of collective voice"... find times leaves them with broken down bodies, and inequitable pay, and when they get sick, everything caves in.
They try to blame it on anything and everything, than to review and look at their own complicity and complicit actions, which fought against anything and everything that tried to "awaken them" to pay attention and learn, and invest in developing the skill for "critical thinking". Instead, they kept voting based on emotions, of who could promote the most belligerence and the most attack something commentary. Most have absolutely no idea, concept of understanding of policy and what is contained within political bills and measures.
Only when they were about to lose the benefits of ACA, did they awaken, and some still have not awakened. Only when Biden has advanced the delivery of vaccines, have they come to learn of the benefits, and some even try and cheat by any means to get ahead of others, when before these were the same people who denied the pandemic was reality.

Many of the blackouts in Enron were not based on "disaster"...they were active manipulation - taking millions of customers offline for alleged "maintenance" causing many blackouts...just to boost the prices, I was lucky to be in one of the few areas that negotiated rates ahead of time. So we did not see skyrocketing rates like most others, The only thing I had to worry about was a family member having her oxygen shut off and rushing home to switch her to tanks. I mean....low level stuff. Amoral assbags.

If any went to jail, it wasn't nearly enough.

Some had built up pensions....losing everything.

I wouldn't doubt it. America's greatest example of pure capitalist greed occurred between 1999 and 2007. It's everything we can read about when it came to the two decades prior to the 1929 crash.

But, have no faith. Since understanding involves learning from the past, we have no intention of doing that. Here's to the next economic disaster due to de-regulation and capitalist anarchy!

Continued from Post #32

DON'T READ THIS IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO ENGAGE CRITICAL THINKING, BECAUSE ITS NOT FLATTERING, IT ADDRESSING TRUTHS THAT ARE HARD TO DIGEST.

When it comes to Black People - being at the low end of economics does not mean, the community areas, where it mass apartments, or older single family homes, do not need to have litter in the street, unkept lawns, of cluttered junk, and certainly no people black or whites, should have back yards that look like some abandoned over-grown junk field.. and certainly not with some customized or newer vehicle parked in the driveway. Black people should abandon the adopted vile of gangs and using guns on each other. That is not the base history of black people in America, except by the acts that slaver's did to pit black people against one another. But one Slavery was over, it was and still is up to black people to be very selective about what habits and methodology they adopt from white society, not only in America but around the world. Yes, there were waring factions in Africa before white people ever went there, just like there were Clan Dynasties in China long before white people when there. Non white people from various countries did not bring those things to America.

People, black and white or others, have to be very discerning and careful of what they adopt from the environment's they find themselves.

Black People don't generally complain about paying taxes, or being with an anti democracy mentality, as black people have pushed for 100's of years for Americans to Respect Democracy for All People. That has been a single principle focus for 100's of years. The march to support Respect for Person as Individual, as an American with Equality for All.

Black people in general have had to pay attention to Politics for centuries, because of the way politics were used to enslave, oppress and repress an entire race of people. Black people also have a long history of having seen and been within the homes of white people to see how they cater to the system of "white men in suits" and listen to anything wealthy white men say, and try and mold their lives behind what they see on TV or read in Media Material. All during the long era when white men, did not want and some did not allow white women to work, black people saw what happen to those women, when they man died or if he left or he took off with a younger woman, and she had no skill, no work history and no knowledge of how things worked outside the home, and then they had to awaken to realize she had no personhood outside of being measured by the man's life of whom she was with.

Black women have always worked, the same as black men, but black women were allowed opportunity to work in predominantly white environment of offices long before black men, so they learn by watching the ways white men did business, and they learn the cut throat methods that some engaged. They watched what was done to working poor whites and saw even worst done to black men in the workplace.

Yet, white people refused to listen to black people address all this malice within the system. Only now, people are having to face it straight up, and they act shocked, when they could have been over that shock decades ago, if they'd listen to what black people have been saying for centuries and decades.

It's a simple logic... that says, if one wants to learn about the horrors of abuse, then listen to someone who has been abused.

When it comes to compassion, then listen and watch people who invest themselves to help others, when they have been batter and abusively denigrated by the same people they invest themselves to help.
AOC is fully aware that many of the Right Wing people of Republicanism from Texas have attacked her character and concepts incessantly, yet... she engaged to do more work to raise money to help the people of Texas, while the bigoted Trump ass-kisser Cruz, got on a plane and flew to a warm sunny resort, and only turned and came back when he realized he had been exposed for the true nature of his character, which is one of self centered bigoted elitism. The world watched him lie and try and put if off on his own kids, which is even worst them him kissing Trumps ass after Trump denigrated his wife and his daddy. and the crazy thing is "white people" keep on re-electing this type of person".

They watched the ignorance of the Texas Governor who first denied and did everything to stand against promoting respect and care to protect against COVID, now get on TV and LIE about the cause of the power issue. Rather than Address The GREED GAME OF PRIVITIZATIONS AND THE FOOLS IGNORANCE OF DISREGARDING FEDERAL REGULATIONS, while people suffer!!!

Should we expect to soon hear Moscow Mitch decrying a "red state bailout" and insisting we not use federal funds to paper over Texas's irresponsibility?
MooCow Mitch does suffer from selective amnesia when it comes to bailouts.

Late last week, Rep. Thomas Suozzi tweeted, “@senatemajldr to NY & States: Drop Dead. Since ’15, NY taxpayers have given the fed gov $116B more than we’ve rec’d back, while Ky has RECEIVED $148B more in fed spending then they gave. NY subsidizes KY! @NYDailyNews@NYGov.”

Kentucky is second only to Virginia in reaping more from the federal government in spending than it pays in, however, Virginia only comes out on top because of the massive defense spending in that state. So Kentucky is No. 1 in pork.

Kentucky, with a state budget of just $30 billion annually, gets almost $40 billion more from the federal government than it pays in each year. Or, to put it another way, U.S. taxpayers give about $9,145 a year to each Kentuckian, according to 2017 figures. It has one of the highest food stamp recipient percentages in the nation, with 14.1% of households getting the benefit, and one of the lowest median household incomes, at $48,375 a year.

These are the same recipient who are always railing against a social system, with their "twisted and perverted usage of the word socialism". They can't think deep enough to realism, that America was a social system, even before it became to Declare its Independence, because it socialized the funding of Europeans, French, Spaniard's and any others who came here and staked claims.

The words "We The People" indicate and denote that America Democracy is a Social System, that has a Monetary policy that is based in Capitalism as a means to create currency to facilitate the medium of exchange. The Establishment of Congress by the Mandate of The Articles of The Constitution, has dictated the duty to congress to use "social collected taxes" to create social services programs for people, nation, business and industry, that means, it does so by establishing policy and crafting Regulatory Governance. American Democracy is The Greatest Social System on Planet Earth.

The only people who push the negative interpretation of America's social system are "Racist Bigots", who want to limit and deny who can benefit from the social systems the Governments Congress Creates and Establish in accordance with the values and principles of The Preamble.

That's the expanse and depth of the ignorance that "Racism" which has for centuries bastardized the principles and values of America's Democracy.
Racism
must be eradicated, it must be made a severely punishable crime against the Democracy this nation is founded to support and promote. Racism is and should always be a Federal Crime, on part with Sedition, Subversion and Promotions of Insurrection of Divisiveness … It is a form of Treason against The principles and values of American Democracy. We are to be "One Nation, Undivided"!!!!

Many people in America, who call themselves Americans... have no idea of what American Democracy is.
they ("The Racist") abuse and desecrate it with their racist ignorance.

In America, "People" are the greatest value, there would be no America without the History of Ethnic and Racial Diversity,
We suffered a tremendous loss by the acts of slaughter over the Centuries of Native American, Blacks and Non Whites, We damaged the system of Economic by the Enslavement of Black people and the Inequity Treatment of other ethnicities of people.

As a result, we've see a wealthy and well to do white men of white society, squander the wealthy and embed America in $27,000,000,000,000 of Debt; in doing so, it left Poor Whites, Blacks, Non Whites of other ethnicities in Economic Despair,
While the wealthy flaunted vain and wasteful opulence at the expense of the general public and caused and created debt, that has not benefitted the general society to build, maintain and upkeep what working poor peoples labor built.

No more!!!! wealthy white men/women dominating Congress, and No More !!! playing games with the voice of the people, by campaign fund raising,
We need
FEDERAL, STATE AND LOCAL CAMPAIGN FINANCING

And
NO PERSON, who has not invested 5yr Years in Public Service with no abusive acts on his/her record is Eligible to access those funds to seek Public Office.

All you wall of text writing folks are assholes.

I get it. This is hypocritical, and if it were a thread about AOC having a booger, it would be crawling with pedo obsessed goofies but because they are stupid, they don't understand the structural problems they created and are not here to talk bout how their science experiment failed.

4 run on sentences or less, yo.

After doing a search what I found says that NO money from FEMA can be used to pay any utility bills
but some people may be able to get a emergency loan
the post would not copy but I found it in this search

Have a nice night

I figured those high e-bills were aimed at stealing that relief money. Unfortunately, I wasn't wrong.

A lot of broken bootstraps in Texas it seems. Would be much cheaper just to send repair kits.

I remember well the day in 1968 when the temperature dropped to -65 F. Clear sky, sun and ringing silence... It was a little cold to play outside.. Of course it was in the north of Russia

The same ****s have no problem turning their back on New York and other "blue states".
I'm in the camp that, lets say around half of those people in trouble, wouldn't turn their backs on folks in other states, but there are the rest who would. My position is lets not burned down the village to get even with the bad apples that exist there as well.

I haven't had much time (personal stuff) to thoroughly research some of what I hear throughout my day in bits and pieces, but I believe that some Texas lawmakers had put a stop on people having to pay those ridiculous utility bills until a proper resolve is installed. If I may add, the utility companies who are doing this should be brought into Congressional hearings to be shamed and face further serious investigations into their wrongful operations.

Elected officials in Texas need to address the "wholesale" utility plans and how it can drastically affect the consumer. Disaster aid should not go to the utilities to pay for consumers bills. Some of the reported bills is highway robbery.

Helping States and the Nation harden its energy grid should be high on politicians list.
If they were representing we the people it would be, sadly most politicians support the people with the money who support them. We are nothing but cannon fodder and cash cows to pay taxes for those who create situations like the one that just hit texas.
