Texas federal judge rules against HHS program allowing teens confidential birth control

A Texas district judge ruled that Title X, a federal program that provides free, confidential contraception to anyone violates parents' rights and state and federal law.

A federal court ruling Tuesday could make it nearly impossible for Texas teens to access birth control without parental permission.

US District Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk ruled that Title X, the federal program that provides free, confidential contraception to anyone regardless of age, income or immigration status, violates parental rights and violates state and federal laws.

The ruling from Kacsmaryk likely means that teenagers who receive care through the Title X family planning program will no longer be allowed to do so confidentially.

Parental OK is not so bad but if the repugs keep up their attacks on child birth it could soon be impossible to obtain BC meds for any woman in TX.

Here it comes. The right-wing assault on birth control. Exactly as we pro-choicers predicted.
 
And I was poo-hoo'd when I said birth control is next.

They've told us who they are over and over, why aren't more of us listening?
 
Attacking teen access is the low hanging fruit.
Once they clear that hurdle they can rule that adult access violates the rights of God, the Church, the biological father and, of course, the rights of the baby.
After all, contraception is murder as far as they're concerned and an egg is already a human being.
 

I do not agree. That judge has a bias based on his religion and should not have been allowed to hear that case. It needs to be further appealed.
 
I have a feeling that the tax burden on Texans are going to get larger as more teenage pregnancies occur.

To help make sure the child is taken care of…and not at the taxpayers’ expense…a law should be passed that the teenage father’s parents should chip in 50% of costs to raise the child until the teenaged parents both hit 18: at which point the cost would drop to 25% as the teens wouldn’t be able to get good enough jobs to pay for baby and everything f else.
