Earlier this year, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton’s (R) office requested the state Department of Public Safety to compile a list of transgender residents in the state, a DPS official confirmed to the Washington Post in a Wednesday report.

We got lucky that a few people stood in the way of this happening this time, but we might not be so lucky next time. It is very alarming that this was something that was pushed for at all.

I can already see the comments downplaying this, "wow, typical liberal alarmism. Of course you'd paint Republican just collecting DMV information as evidence of fascism". To those people I ask you, what benevolent reason is there to make a list of trans people in a state? Maybe they are just really concerned about their well being and wanted to send free therapists to their homes

Compiling lists of people like this is wrong.

What I wonder about this is that the story seems to say that the request was the NUMBER of requests, not the names. I could be wrong. That would be a much less of an issue as opposed to a list of names.

From the article..

"
A spokesperson for DPS told the Post that Paxton’s office made “a verbal request” calling for the total number of Texans who had changed the gender on their driver’s licenses or in other government records within the past two years.

“Need total number of changes from male to female and female to male for the last 24 months, broken down by month,” the chief of the DPS driver’s license division said in an email to colleagues that’s dated June 30. The emails shared with the Post specify that Paxton’s office requested this information. Some of these communications are specifically titled “AG Request Sex Change Data” and “AG data request.”"

What reality do you live in? You think the request was for numbers only and not for the names that go with the numbers? Republicans don't play ball that way. It is however nice to know that you think a request like this isn't as much of an issue.

Sure, To have a bit more accurate count of how many transgenders there really are. Were told 24/7 by the media about the pervasiveness of transgenderism. It would be nice to put some actual numbers to it.

Really? Why? What would the data indicate that is of any real importance?

There is no good reason to collect this data.

Every liberal in Texas should go down to the DMV and request a gender change on their license.
There is a very good reason. If James Johnson is a male and has an outstanding warrant for murder, but has changed his name to Judy Jackson and "changed" sex, that's something every cop should be able to know if "Ms." Jackson is pulled over.

Was just asking a question because it was not clear in the article. You may be right, but what evidence makes you believe that?
Republicans don't play ball that way.
Yeah they need to learn hardball like the democrat party.
It is however nice to know that you think a request like this isn't as much of an issue.
Nice to know you like to build strawmen.

You missed the part about real importance?
When we are significantly and sometimes fundamentally altering public policy to accommodate the population, it would be important to know it's size and distribution.

Like if black and white people get married?

Or maybe they just want to make sure the sex on the driver's license match his/her current one? Couple with LW paranoia, of course.

Would there have been special identifiers on the licenses of transgender Texans to aid the State in processing them?

Something, like, little pink triangles?

Evidence, they're republicans. You are the one who said, well if there aren't any names it's not such an issue. Did you not?

Yea, it is the most common method of evasion, gender reassignment.

How are we altering public policy, other than limiting bigotry?

Numbers are irrelevant to anti discrimination.
Sorry, I thought you were interested in a rational discussion.
