The centrist Austrian government has agreed today to change the country's firearm law and tighten it.

Details will be worked out soon.

Turns out the killer was a psychopath/sociopath who spent 10 hours a day playing ego-shooter PC games, while being unemployed and dressed up constantly in black. This is something typical of American school shooters, many who did the same. He also spent 3 months at a shooting range, training to shoot.

Interesting side fact: Austria has a military draft, in which every 18-year old man has to do a medical examination at a military base. In his case, he was ruled "unfit to serve because of psychological issues".

Because of strict data privacy laws, these concerns by the military were not shared with the district authority that issues the firearm permit. And so forth. Despite this, he still passed a 1-hour assessment with a psychiatrist, before getting the license, which is required.

The killer was inspired by the 1999 Columbine killers and was a "fan" of school shooters and shootings in general.

Before he started his rampage at the school, he posted pictures of himself on "X" inside the school toilet, all dressed in black and of his weapons.

He also was a PC-nerd and E-shooter fanatic, who played video games for 10 hours a day and in teams.

It is unclear if he also live-streamed the shooting on the internet ... police are looking into it.

Too bad for the OP that the shooter wasn’t brown or Muslim.

The police held a new press conference today, during which many new details emerged:

* the killer went into the school toilet with a backpack (where he carried his guns) and posted a picture of himself in the toilet on "X" before he started the shooting (I have seen the picture, but won't post it).

* the school had an amok/rampage training just days before the actual shooting, so the teachers and students knew exactly what to do and barricaded/locked the classroom doors after the first shots.

* because of that, the killer had to spend time to shoot open classroom doors and locks and remove cupboards that blocked the way into the classrooms.

* because of this, the shooting took "only" 6-7 minutes. After 6-7 minutes, police already entered the school building and when the killer heard the sirens, he went to the toilet again and killed himself.

* because of this (and the fact that he spent 10 years preparing to kill students by playing online shooter games like Counterstrike etc. and 4 months on a shooting range) police think that the death toll could have been FAR higher in the 20s or 30s, if there was not an amok/rampage test in the days before and barricades were not as effective.

Now, there are 10 people dead (9 young ones and a teacher) and 11 heavily injured ... but thankfully it wasn't far worse.

The killer shot a total of 51 bullets, 50 at victims and 1 to kill himself. Since 21 people are dead or heavily injured, almost every 2nd bullet hit. Probably even more, because many probably were hit several times.

He also had several additional rounds of ammo in his backpack.

Police also said he had a headset on, when they found his dead corpse at the toilet. But it was just a regular headset for music or to dampen sounds, not to livestream the shooting.

BTW: the school shooting took place about 1.5 miles away from where Arnold Schwarzenegger grew up, a house near Thal, a suburb town of Graz.

Significant measures to TIGHTEN Austria's firearm law will already be introduced tomorrow at the government's cabinet council meeting.

These include a higher age limit to buy firearms (currently 18 for rifles and 21 for handguns). It will be seen if they raise the rifle age to 21 too, or if they will raise both to an even higher minimum age.

Other measures include much stricter "psychological assessment tests" to get a firearm license, a longer waiting period to purchase firearms after you get the license to lower the number of "affectionate killings", data from the Austrian military draft psycho assessment of draftees being sent to authorities who issue firearm licenses, more psychological treatment of students and more staff for this in schools.

There was also talk about American-style entry systems to schools, like metal detectors and security guards, but this was not taken into account, because school should be a free place and students shouldn't be reminded of the possibility of rampages every day.

The measures presented tomorrow will be worked out in detail over the next month, passed by parliament and then take into effect before the start of the new school year in September.

The government will also introduce an age limit for all Social Media for juveniles.

The question is if the age limit to access Social Media will be set at 14, 15, 16, 17 or 18.

Austria to raise the minimum age for firearm permits from 21 to 25 among several new restrictions in the gun law:

Good thing I guess, because at 25 you are very far away mentally already from high school and you are less likely to commit school shootings.

There will also be a one-month waiting period ("cool-off-phase"), after you get your permit, and after which you can buy a firearm. This is to prevent affective killings.
