THOMAS KOSTIGEN'S ETHICS MONITOR
Ten big news stories you aren't hearing
Traditional media ignore or downplay significant events

1. The Feds and the media muddy the debate over Internet freedom

2. Halliburton charged with selling nuclear technology to Iran
Halliburton, the notorious U.S. energy company, sold key nuclear-reactor components to a private Iranian oil company called Oriental Oil Kish as recently as 2005, using offshore subsidiaries to circumvent U.S. sanctions. The story is particularly juicy because Vice President Dick Cheney, who now claims to want to stop Iran from getting nukes, was president of Halliburton in the mid-1990s, at which time he may have advocated business dealings with Iran, in violation of U.S. law.

3. World oceans in extreme danger

4. Hunger and homelessness increasing in the United States

5. High-tech genocide in Congo

6. Federal whistleblower protection in jeopardy

7. U.S. operatives torture detainees to death in Afghanistan and Iraq

8. Pentagon exempt from Freedom of Information Act

9. World Bank funds Israel-Palestine wall

10. Expanded air war in Iraq kills more civilians

Know all about genocide in the Congo. High-Tech?

9. World Bank funds Israel-Palestine wall
Don’t really care about this one unless Can we build one too?.

Your comments are always welcome!

The congo genocide story is on the news if you haven't noticed yet. I'm only checking online though.

I'd like to hear these stories in depth because I need to judge their authenticity.

Yeah, we don't hear anything about global warming, deaths in Iraq, torture allegations or any of this secret conspiracies from our evil conservative media!!!

:2funny:

...the 95% of the media made up of far left liberals must be slanting the news for Republicans.

You have just demonstrated the danger of mindlessly regurgitating left wing hype without thinking about whether or not it sounds absurd on its face-making an *** of yourself. :applaud

Remove head from rectum, THEN start threads.

So Fox News only makes up 5% of the American media?

I brought up some ancient history on another thread about Ronald Reagan's support of Iraq during the Iraq/Iran war. There was almost nothing about this printed by the 'liberal media.' William Safire dubbed it Iraqgate.

Reagan backed Iraq with food, money, military equipment, and intelligence. He guaranteed loans to Iraq of billions of dollars, a lot of which we US taxpayers had to pay back. He removed Iraq from our list of terrorist nations.

...
Document 61: United States District Court (Florida: Southern District) Affidavit. "United States of America, Plaintiff, v. Carlos Cardoen [et al.]" [Charge that Teledyne Wah Chang Albany Illegally Provided a Proscribed Substance, Zirconium, to Cardoen Industries and to Iraq], January 31, 1995.

Former Reagan administration National Security Council staff member Howard Teicher says that after Ronald Reagan signed a national security decision directive calling for the U.S. to do whatever was necessary to prevent Iraq's defeat in the Iran-Iraq war, Director of Central Intelligence William Casey personally led efforts to ensure that Iraq had sufficient weapons, including cluster bombs, and that the U.S. provided Iraq with financial credits, intelligence, and strategic military advice. The CIA also provided Iraq, through third parties that included Israel and Egypt, with military hardware compatible with its Soviet-origin weaponry.

...
Document 52: Department of State Cable from George P. Shultz to the United States Embassy in Lebanon [et al.]. "Department Press Briefing, March 30, 1984," March 31, 1984.

The State Department announces it has imposed foreign policy controls on Iran and Iraq for exports of chemical weapons precursors. It responds to questions from the press about U.S. policy regarding the Iran-Iraq war, and a department spokesperson says Iraq's chemical weapons use will not change U.S. interest in pursuing closer U.S.-Iraq relations.

...
Document 39: Department of State, Office of the Assistant Secretary for Near Eastern and South Asian Affairs Action Memorandum from David T. Schneider to George P. Shultz. "Easing Restrictions on Exports to Iraq," January 30, 1984.

The State Department presents the case for relaxing controls on exports to Iraq of militarily useful items. The department is concerned specifically with an application to export dual-use heavy trucks, the sale of which to either Iran or Iraq has been banned under the Export Administration Act. Secretary of State Shultz approves the proposed sale.

...
Document 13: Department of State Cable from Alexander M. Haig, Jr. to the United States Interests Section in Iraq. "De-designation of Iraq as Supporter of International Terrorism," February 27, 1982.

...
The U.S., which followed developments in the Iran-Iraq war with extraordinary intensity, had intelligence confirming Iran's accusations, and describing Iraq's "almost daily" use of chemical weapons, concurrent with its policy review and decision to support Iraq in the war [Document 24]. The intelligence indicated that Iraq used chemical weapons against Iranian forces, and, according to a November 1983 memo, against "Kurdish insurgents" as well [Document 25].

The White House had its people trying to persuade other nations not to vote for a U.N. condemnation of Iraq over its use of chemical weapons:

Document 47: Department of State Cable from George P. Shultz to the Mission to the European Office of the United Nations and Other International Organizations. "U.N. Human Rights Commission: Item 12: Iranian Resolution on Use of Chemical Weapons by Iraq," March 14, 1984.

The State Department instructs the U.S. delegate to the United Nations to get the support of other Western missions for a motion of "no decision" regarding Iran's draft resolution condemning Iraq's use of chemical weapons. Failing that, the U.S. is to abstain on the resolution.

There's a lot more on the above site about this. We helped create a monster in Iraq. He was already a bad man, but we didn't have to help arm and finance him, and pretend we frowned on his use of chemical weapons.

Anyway, the 'liberal media' completely missed this story.
