Telemundo Caught Staging Shot at Anti-Trump Protest in San Diego
Apparently Telemundo believes it is perfectly alright to stage events and film them as authentic. In fact, as you can see in the video below, the Telemundo cameraman admits to filmmaker Andrew Marcus of Rebel Pundit that he is indeed staging the event. In this case, two young anti-Trump protesters in San Diego yesterday were holding the Mexican flag upside down and the Telemundo cameraman gave them directions on the proper way to hold the flag. This is followed by a really nasty attitude by one of the protesters including spitting in the direction of Marcus. But, hey, that behavior is understandable because according to another protester, the poor lad is a "minor" and therefore not responsible for his actions.
ANDREW MARCUS: Is that the media staging a shot? Is that the media staging a shot? Is Telemundo staging a shot?
CAMERAMAN: Uh, probably.
ANDREW MARCUS: Yeah but you're staging a shot at a protest. That's not news collection. You're staging news.
CAMERAMAN: What do you want me to do, man?
ANDREW MARCUS: You're staging the news.
CAMERAMAN: I'm not part of the protest bro'.
ANDREW MARCUS: Why are you directing them?
CAMERAMAN: F*** you, man! I need to work.

Wait...HOLY ****, he told them the flag was upside down!!!!! How dishonest can one be? That makes it all totally and completely ****ing different! Those Telemundo bastards, how dare they be helpful!

No, really...if I can be serious a moment: telling some one they have the flag upside down is directing them now. This is pathetic and desperate all rolled up in one package. Sounds like something that would come from dishonest right wing blogs. Oh wait, I looked at your sources, and all I can say is "called it"!

I don't know how many times I've seen the Canadian flag displayed upside down in the US at a sporting event. Now I know I can blame Telemondo for not covering sports.

Seriously? How can they not know which way is up?

It may not seem like a big deal to you, but the news media is not supposed to stage the news. They are supposed to capture news events as they happen, not manipulate or take part in them.

Holding the mexican flag upside down would have reflected those kids protesting as being stupid, and that's the last thing Telemundo wants to do with any Trump protesters... Instead of directing them, he should have just walked away and found others to film.

What is hilarious is you think you have made some point. Somehow telling some one "hey, you got it upside down" is a big deal.

It is when you're the news media... or maybe you think the news should be staged, rather than just reported on.

Telling some one they got it upside down is hardly staging. At times it becomes very clear why you see bias in everything...

Actually, it IS a big deal. Holding it upside down if you are not a Trump supporter would make it look like you ARE a Trump supporter. So the cameraman told him to turn it right side up. I don't see any vast conspiracy of Telemundo cameramen here. LOL.

No what is hilarious is that you obviously didn't watch the video where he had them stop to pose and stretch the flag between them, only to then tell them that it was upside down so he could complete his staged shot.

That is called staging.

I've seen it one time, at a baseball game. Why the Canadians even have a baseball team escapes me, so perhaps it was payback.

Lmao, this made me laugh. What home made study told you this? Reporters and cameramen, by being there, are part of the story. The shots they decide to take, who they decide to speak to, and the ways in which they capture events by default manipulate the eventual version of the events that is provided to the public.

This is media studies 101.

Not the same as staging the shot though, is it.

There was nothing staged. He corrected the use of the flag. Hardly an event altering comment.

I agree that it isn't "staging", but it is getting involved in what they are reporting, instead of doing all they can to maintain the objectivity they should be striving for. Do you want your news filtered through a lens of subjective bias or have it be unfiltered, unbiased and objective.

The media thinks it's their job to create news rather than reporting it . Why do you think the media loves that corrupt witch Killary Rotten Clinton , they could fill ten sunday papers with the illegal , dishonest things she has done in the last three years .

Why would he do that? Seems like the flag being displayed upside-down might be part of the story.

Why would he do that?

The Mexican flag was upside down. He made them aware of it. An upside down flag is a sign of distress. What sign of distress are anti-Trump protesters in Mexico in? Again, hardly an event changing comment.

Seems like the flag being displayed upside-down might be part of the story.

Cool, I think it was a comment made by a guy with an organization issue. I guess we will never know.

It is not bias by any means, and it is pretty much the norm. Camera crews have to get people to move in or out to get shots right. As long as they are not actively changing the behavior of those they are reporting on, it is no big deal.

I agree. But in this case, they were changing the behavior of the of those they were reporting on. We're not talking about framing a shot or getting someone in a better light, but actively changing what was happening. Yes, it was a minor change, but it changes the action of those involved and makes it either look like they weren't smart enough to know which way the flag was supposed to be held, that they had simply made a mistake or were trying to use it in the same manner as flying the American flag upside-down (as a symbol of distress). In any of these scenarios, they are changing what was happening and that's something the press should studiously avoid.

The individual made it clear that the photographer wanted them to get down with the flag held between them. That is staging.
