Teen Crushed by Van Seat Dies

MAGA!

Libertarians wet dreams come true.

But, hey. Ya'll got yer tacks cutz. Amirite?

ya know...i have heard of reaching to try and score political points

but not sure King Kong has this much of a reach...

you screwed the pooch on this one dude....

now, can you admit when you have gone too far?

Surely a properly-funded 911 Dispatch Center has multiple redundant forms of communication to the patrol units? If this is a case where there were 4 freak failures that all happened at the same time, then that's one thing, but if this kid dies just because someone's computer locked up, then the problem can easily be attributed to outdated hardware, a lack of training, or substandard operational guidelines. All of which are easily explained by a lack of funding.

Since the call taker was a four year veteran it is unlikely it was an untrained rookie mistake. And the fact she was able to field the call says the phone worked.

What didn't happen is forwarding the call so that the officers knew where to look.

Finding the reason behind that inaction will help to point out where the deficiencies are.

Funding doesn't stop you from jotting down information and passing it on to a patrol unit.

The kid died after two calls and a fair amount of time.

If Dispatch had been trained on how to pass along information to patrol units in the event of a computer malfunction, I'd like to think they would have done so. Why didn't dispatch contact the unit by radio? And I'm not asking that rhetorically.

They were trained. They had an SOP. The computer glitch didn't break every pencil in the office.

SOMEONE DIDN'T DO IT RIGHT.

What I wonder is why the seat flipped...if it was faulty, there may be a lawsuit pending...

Quite likely. Something about a latch not being connected securely when it was pushed into place. Honda will have to answer for this one.

Underfunding had absolutely nothing to do with it. A 911 operator was on the phone with him when he first called in and she failed to report the location to first responders. And perhaps at some point you will learn that 911 centers are not totally funded by the federal government. They actually get most of their funding from state and local governments as well as taxes on some utilities.

Yep....when both conservatives and liberals on this thread are telling him that he is going to far, you would think he would get the message.

And, you still fail to make the logical connection that "the 911 center has had problems regarding staffing, training and technology," had to have played a significant role in this happening.

My 911 center is in excellent shape, no funding issues and works very well. Do you think every damn service on the planet is totally dependent on federal funding?

You ignoring the obvious connection between this boy's death and the center's out-dated technology, turnover in management, and a substantial shortage of dispatchers and operators does not help your position.

How much funding does it take for the 911 operator to tell the rescuers where the boy was?

Maybe. But, I still see the libertarian influence in play here, "Cut cut cut."

What libertarian influence would that be? There are many libertarians, however very few of them with any real power at the federal state or local level anywhere. How is this the fault of the libertarians?

Well, I'm not sure a pencil is the method that would be successful in getting a message to an officer in the field, but I assume there must be some form of communication besides just the computer that locked up.

Derp.

Take pencil.

Write down notes.

Give note to dispatchers.

Problem solved.

Derp? Really?

The kid was on the phone with a dispatcher. It was the dispatchers that couldn't communicate with the officers to give them the make, model, and color of the van he was in because the computer (system?) was frozen. A 2nd line of communication between the dispatchers and the officers is what was needed. A pencil isn't going to cut it here.

Reread the articles....

There were two calls.

Officers were dispatched to the general area.

On the second call the operator failed to provide the needed information.

They have an SOP for when the system is down.

For some reason it was not followed.
