Ted Cruz poised to challenge Donald Trump in Texas - POLITICO

Ted Cruz isn’t giving up.

While Donald Trump dispatches three advisers to Texas’s convention in Dallas this week and makes a pitch for party unity, his team will be running up against a Cruz operation that is still maneuvering to stuff the state’s delegation with allies the senator could call on to snub the presumptive nominee.

“We have a busy weekend planned,” said a source familiar with the Cruz campaign’s plans.

Cruz is scheduled to deliver an address at the Texas convention after a week of hinting he could jump back into the presidential contest and urging activists to thwart the New Yorker’s takeover of the GOP’s policy platform. And despite dropping out of the race more than a week ago, the vanquished presidential contender has deployed at least one paid adviser to the Texas Republican convention – Tyler Norris, his state director. (Trump has three advisers: state director Joshua Jones, deputy director Eric Mahroum and Houston-area director Kayla Hensley.)

It’s not just Texas where Cruz is still playing.

The senator’s team remains active in several of the other eight state conventions selecting delegates this week – from Nebraska to Oklahoma to Nevada. Those conventions, along with party meetings in Arkansas, Florida and Wisconsin, will be selecting 389 national delegates, nearly a sixth of the entire convention.

If Cruz were still working to send the nomination fight to a contested convention, this weekend’s delegate hunt would have been the main event – the largest single delegate selection weekend of the primary season. Now, it’s become a display of Cruz’s last hardcore bastions of support and a forum for Trump to appeal for unity.

Trump will easily have the 1,237 for the first ballot. There will be no contested convention. Cruz is desperately trying to save his political career. In typical Cruz fashion he's shooting himself in the foot while doing so.

The Cruz Campaign isn't fighting for the nomination at this point, but rather for the platform.

You guys continue to fail to realize the elites are losing in this election. Oh, and the people vote for president...not parties.

Trump isn't going to change one of his stances that got him the GOP nomination just to satisfy some of the elites of the party and not get elected president. It's common sense as Tom Paine would say.

Yeah. The elites are totally losing this election. That's why the two major party nominees are two uber-wealthy long-term members of the political establishment.

Oh, and the people vote for president...not parties.

Actually they don't. They vote for electors. Who typically are, in fact, party people.

Yeah. Because grassroots party activists who actually believe in conservatism are elites.

Trump is going to continue to change his stances because he doesn't actually believe in policy, he simply believes in the power of Him and His Will.

Dude, if the Trump people want to start throwing bricks at others, picking up the one labeled "Critical Thinking Skills" is not a good choice.

But way to not read beyond the headline:

...We oppose the teaching of Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) (values clarification), critical thinking skills and similar programs that are simply a relabeling of Outcome-Based Education (OBE) (mastery learning) which focus on behavior modification and have the purpose of challenging the student’s fixed beliefs and undermining parental authority."...

So you put in curriculum that is designed to enable teachers to further indoctrinate students leftward, and the GOP opposes it. Astonishing

Hey, if I were to push out a curriculum that denied Global Warming, call it the "Good Citizenship" curriculum, and then let Democrats oppose it, would that mean that Democrats oppose good citizenship?

There isn't a single Trump supporter on the planet who has a leg to stand on when it comes to anyone's 'critical thinking skills'. They have thrown those skills out the window with their endorsement of Trump.

Sorry, you have no excuse for your position. Try as you might, there are Trump supporters with multiple degrees, some with critical thinking skills far beyond your own, heck, choose your demographic and there's a Trump supporter there.

This "they aint smart like us" routine you folks have going is the same warmed over excuse you used to complain about when the leet liberals used it.

You can be 'sorry' all you want. But if you're endorsing Trump, your multiple degrees ain't worth toilet paper and your critical thinking skills are anything but.

Well, as has already been shown you're repeating a tactic that just doesn't work. It doesn't work for the liberal leets and it doesn't work for you. So your judgment here doesn't count for anything, especially where it comes to critical thinking.

There are plenty of reasons to support Trump.

In of themselves, higher order thinking skills and outcomes-based education would do no such thing. Furthermore, outcomes-based education was practically the backbone to Reaganite education reform and to a large extent, still is. If you're looking for something that hearkens back to the thesis of A Nation At Risk, look no further than outcomes-based education.

Whether someone wants to call biased curriculum "higher order" is one thing, but blasting higher order thinking skills is hilariously foolish and opposing outcomes-based education is practically a walking contradiction for the conservative movement.

There are plenty of reasons to support Trump.

Which do you mean? His chronic lying? Or his complete want of decorum? Or his abysmal lack of experience? How about his vitriol? Or his willingness to engage in juvenile hyperbole?

Oh, wait...sorry....those are reasons NOT to vote for him.

Cruz is said to be a brilliant mind, so why then is he having so much trouble understanding that he lost, that the game is over?

Of course Bernie has the same problem.
