After seeing a great post I decided to try the same idea. In order to teach my kids about liberalism and socialism I did the following.
On Halloween evening I paraded my kids around the neighbor hood, (yes we wore masks, and we live in a semi gated community of about 500 homes). After the walking and "Trick or Treating" we got home and I broke the news to the kids. Since I took you out and I walked around with you I now get half your candy and you can have the rest. Oh, and you can only eat it in the evening and only eat 5 pieces a day. Share the wealth.

How did the children respond?

"Thanks Dad, if you hadn't taken us trick or treating we'd have no candy!"

How would anyone respond to a tyrant who tries to disguise his tyranny as being a benefit to the people. Except americans of course. they will just keep on voting for the tyrant.

Good thing kids usually reject the nonsense they are taught by misguided parents.

Observation. Before you can teach yoru kids about that, you have to learn about it yourself. The straw man presentation you are giving is so far out of line with actuality that it shows bigotry and ignorance, as well as a great deal of selfishness.

Except that the Liberals don't take half, or tell you what you can do with the majority you get to keep.

LOL!!! As I expected a wide variety of opinions. To answer how they responded. "That's not fair." was the typical response. As far as learning about it for myself. Well I know all about being the victim of stupid policy decisions and stupid bigoted positions. This little exercise was neither. It was a great way to get children to think and ponder over it. I've worked for the federal government, I've seen stupid at it's best. I've studied economics and politics and history and I've seen liberals and socialism at work, the bad and sometimes the good. Taking what isn't yours, particularly in excess and telling other how they can use theirs, or what you decided to leave them with, isn't a good thing. Taking mine to do dumb things with for people who often made bad life decisions isn't a good thing. It is coddling those who don't want to do what I did. Get out, work my way through school, holding down two jobs at the same time and sometimes picking up odd jobs on top of that. As I said served I worked for the federal government and I worked in the public sphere and the private. Give generously to causes I believe in, pay my taxes and support policies I agree with. I've taught classes at various levels in both public and private schools. I've taught all all levels of students, white, black, hispanic, asian, male, female, gay, lesbian, straight, and usually in classes made up of all of those at once. I've been a guest speaker and presenter at forums and clinics for both students and professionals in various fields. So I've done my due diligence and I know tough love works when you add a little generosity and understanding. You work for what you get, you don't get want someone else worked for. You choose a field that makes you happy and that will provide you with a life style you like or you choose a field you like and make due with the lifestyle it provides. Giving help to those who are in true need is one thing, giving it to those who don't want to earn it and are capable is something else. A friend of mine likes to say "Don't mistake kindness for weakness." I used to counter with, "Don't assume your weakness is being kind." Still friends.
Oh, and this morning I told the kids we could share my 50%.
