Chris Rock deserved it for running his mouth about Will Smith's wife.

Rock knows this and won't press charges.

Replace Will Smith with Mel Gibson and this story would be completely different. The act is the same and should be treated the same.

Part of the show is telling jokes and giving one-liners about celebrities and/or mini-roasting them. Rock was doing what he was paid to do. You don't get to strike someone because they told a joke that offended you.
 
I didnt watch the Oscars so I had to go looking for this


the answer is a flat out no

in this case, there was no crime committed since Rock isn't pressing charges

It wasn't a joke. Will Smith's wife has alopecia.

Would the joke be funny had she lost her hair due to chemo? No. It isn't funny when someone has alopecia either.

Smith can squirm in embarrassment tomorrow when whatever he had in his system is out and he wakes up and remembers what an ass he made of himself. And Rock deserved it. So it's all good.
