...and it turns out, he was born in Canada

Tea party favorite Cruz releases birth certificate

"U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz has released his birth certificate amid concerns that being born in Canada could derail a possible presidential run by the tea party firebrand."

It will be interesting to see if the birther crowd, many of whom align with the tea party crowd expose themselves as hypocrites if they continue to back him.

Personally I think it is silly. He's a US citizen.

Do you know the difference between inconsistency and consistency? Obama's issues were that he had been reported born in the US and Kenya. Then, his mother may have been to young to bestow birth rights to him. When he released his certificate, every one but the few that really didn't want to hear it believed it.

Cruz has never denied being born in Canada and there has never been a question that his mother could bestow birth rights on him. The hypocrisy stays in the OP.

John MCain was born in Panama (Canal Zone); he ran for POTUS, so would Cruz. The difference is you won't hear Donald Trump and the crazy right make a big deal of this- the Dems will LOL

Cheap ploy is cheap.

I hate 0bama as much as anyone, but Jesus...lay off the birth certificate thing. Five years in, and no one cares anymore. Focus on the Democrats' horrible record instead.

So is my father, but he couldn't run for the Presidency because he wasn't born here or had at least one American parent.

Apparently, since he was born in Canada, he's qualified to run for prime minister of Canada.

The poor birther is so dumb he's opened up a can a worms about his own eligibility.

For the record, I am of the opinion that he is a natural born citizens, but if Obama was not a natural born citizens who was born from an American mother inside the US than the birthers should also have an issue with Cruz's birth. He was born outside of the US and if you follow their thinking pattern, it would mean that Cruz is not a natural born citizen.

Ah Ted, it hardly matters either way, since you are unelectable.

While it's always fun to point out the stupidity in Tea Party arguments, I must say I haven't really heard the collective Tea Party truly back Cruz for President. And I haven't heard Cruz really indicate he's interested. So until one of those two things happen, one really cannot call hypocrisy.

Unfortunately, far too many people will not let it go, including a few that post here.

It amazes me how few cons actually focus on his record but instead like to get obsessed with the silly (like faux scandals or his vacations or whether or not he bows to foreign leaders),

What is fun about a Cruz candidacy is that he has two attributes that the Cons got all in a bunch about, namely the issue of qualification; his citizenship and his very, very short tenure in Washington. It will be fun to throw those back in the face of those that made issue of such with Obama.

Fortunately, a Cruz candidacy is but a sideshow. To actually win the POTUS a candidate has to open his mouth and say something. That will be his Waterloo, making his chance of actually winning POTUS on par with that of Putin (ain't gonna happen).

You mean like the tea party and republican birthers did for years with Obama? This liberal is wrong to do so because 2 wrongs don't make a right. But this person must thing "turnabout is fair play" (even though it isn't).

But the last people who can complain about unfair practices are the republicans and tea party members who ran this birther campaign against Obama. They had nothing to work with and still kept their birther campaign of lies for years and years. While I may not agree with their tactics, I can understand (even though I do not sympathize or agree with them) that some liberals are using the tactics of the tea party against a Tea Party favorite like Cruz.

If I understand correctly, Cruz holds dual citizenship but may have to renounce his Canadian citizenship if he plans to run for higher office. What's the big deal? He is an American citizen.

He doesn't have to be born in Canada to be Prime Minister, he just has to be a citizen. That's how backward we are.

How do we know that is his real BC? If we are to believe that the state of Hawaii faked a BC for Obama and then backed up their fake, and even provided a fake BC to prove his citizenship how can we know that this BC which claims Cruz's mother is a US citizen is real? Canada could have brainwashed him during all his time there to infiltrate the government and turn it into a socialist paradise like canada and to help open the doors to america to all sorts of mexican invaders? For all we know Cruz could be a secret mexican who just forged a canadian BC.

Of course that is stupid and crazy, but then again so was all the crap about obama's BC and the crazy conspiracy theories like the faked birth announcements in the newspaper which they knew to make because obama was someday going to be president. Still, if you are going to be absolutely nuts over obama's supposedly fake BC they really will show their racist and hypocrite natures when they allow ted to run without making much of a peep about it.

The issue has never been that Ted is not a US citizen, but that even if obama was born in kenya the same citizenship status would have been given to him from being born to an american citizen just like with Ted, and if the birthplace actually mattered to the birthers this would be an issue. As far as i am concerned the whole thing about being born an american citizen is a stupid thing to begin with because i have met many immigrants who have become citizens who are loyal and quite proud to be americans. If an arnold wants to become president after years of being a successful american who cares about this country wants to run I cannot see any reason to deny them, just like i cannot see any reason to deny cruz a run even if they were to go crazy and decide he did not qualify because of his birthplace.

It is and it isn't. There's no registered political party, but there's a very real and definite element which makes up the Tea Party.

Cruz isn't done with his pledge to trash the USA economy under Obama. He'll need another term, but it would be nice to see the San Antonio mayor knock off one of these TEA-loons.
