What's A Scenic View Worth? A Tax Hit
What's next? An "Air Tax"? This is starting to get a little silly, I think. A guy pays taxes on a $45,000 cabin and a $200,000 view? What the hell!? You should read this article, it's full of stupidity. Like the blind man who pays taxes on a $45,000 view he can't even see. It's amazing how far some agencies will go to try to cop a few extra bucks.

"I ... don't believe that a view should be assessed, because it doesn't belong to me; I don't own it," says Thompson. "You can't measure it."

The problem is not with the taxation in general. The problem is in the formula used to define the value for the property.

they're not being taxed for the view, they're being taxed based on the value of the property, just like nearly every property in the country is. My house, if it was located in another part of town, might be only worth half as much and thus be taxed half as much. That doesn't mean I'm getting taxed for the neighborhood I live in, I'm still just getting taxed on the value of the property.
