So, who's got one? Where, what is it of... and how much did it hurt? ;) I'm finally turning 18 shortly and am contemplating whether or not I should actually go ahead with getting the tattooes I've wanted for a few years.

Re: Tattooes

Dammit! More typos in the title. o_O I should stop posting on here at 4 AM...

I've none. I don't much like'em... Especially on Babes;) . We (Real Men) refer to them as "Tramp Stamps"... So don't kid yourself into thinking they won't diminish your character in the eyes of others. Not all, but most.
Stats show that women with tattoos (especially the more visibles) come to regret them altogether in a period less than 10 years at a rate of about 90%.
I just read that recently somewhere on the net... Google it if you like... Maybe tis different where you are..?

I like that, "tramp stamps". I don't like tattoos, prefer a clean canvas to pour my choc syrup on. If you choose something make 100% sure of what it is and be very careful of the placement. Nothing more offputting than seeing an older person (70-80's) with an old ship's anchor on his forearm. What the young people with bar codes will look like in their 60's... I can only imagine

Re: Tattooes

I have a dragon on my lower back. There are four runes written across it that stand for self enhancement, knowledge, family and love. Hurt like a sonofabitch to get it done, took two and a half hours, but I love it. And anybody who thinks it "reduces my standing" can kiss my ***!

If I ever do the Ironman, I'll get another one, but we'll see how that goes!

Don't do it! It will be with you forever. What you might like at 18 isn't what you're going to like at 30. If I were you, I'd wait until you're older and see if you still want one.

I knew I'd draw fire with this statement:

I beg to differ, I started getting tattooed when I turned 18, and despite the fact that I'm only 21 now, I am a very different person, and I only want MORE tattoos!

My logic on it is that if one day I wake up and I'm 60 and I hate all of my tattoos, I'll just say "Eh, they're scars of youth", and at the very least they'll remind me that I was young once!
Do you think they are sexy on girls though? I've actually turned down/shyed away from girls with tats... I know it sounds, and likely is stereotypical, but I guess I too "prefer a clean canvas."

Re: Tattooes

None at all. But don't let that put you off. It's a very personal thing both for you and others, some will dig your tatts others won't. I've seen girls with some that look awesome and are really attractive, and others who've got some cheap crap that I couldn't stand to look at.

Remember you pay your money and take your choice, don't go anywhere that looks cheap, or quotes cheap. Don't go to anyone whose work you haven't seen, talk to friends who've got some. Don't walk in pick one outta the book and get it, plan it as well as possible, get a draft if you can and take it home, see how you feel about it, show it to others and get opinions. If a good friend says it looks **** then chances are it looks ****. Like any art form its all about subtlety and working with the canvas, you wouldn't put s**tty graphics on a classic Ferrari would you?

Give the artist a piece of paper and pencil and ask him to freehand a circle, its a basic of art, if they can't do it straight off then they're no artist, walk away.

Re: Tattooes

I agree with aps, I have three, I got them all when I was 18-20. I just turned 27 last week and I wish I had never gotten any of them. I have one on my upper back that I don't really mind, maybe because I can't see it though. ;)

Not anymore......:2wave:

And, uh, no tattoos.

Different looks work on girls. Like, it's rare that a girl could pull off full sleaves or anything, but there are a fair amount of guys who could go for that (I've gone for it before).
But, for example, my girlfriend has 3 tattoos, one on the front left of her pelvis, one on her right *** cheek, and one in the middle of her back. They're all pretty small, and just about always invisible, and I like that, cause when I see them, it's like "Yeah, that's just for me", you know?

Kelzie: He's not kidding about the tramp stamp though. If you're a girl with a tattoo on the small of your back you might as well have it be a target that says "Splooge here, I won't mind!"

Really? Never happened to me. Guess I just date better guys than that.:2wave:

Re: Tattooes

galenrox said:
HA! You wish, there wasn't a soul among them that wasn't thinking the exact same thing!

Please. I'd venture to guess that most guys don't think that having a tattoo makes a girl some kind of whore. And if they'd date a girl they thought was a whore, they're not my type of guy. It's a win win.

Re: Tattooes

galenrox said:
yeah, you keep telling yourself that, but I'll tell ya, every single broad with a tattoo on the small of her back is telling herself that exact same thing:shock:

What, that she's not a whore? That's a whole lot of people you're making assumptions about galen.

Re: Tattooes

galenrox said:
No, I am telling you a fact. Most men know (hell, even my 62 year old father who knows as much about culture after 1970 as I know about chemical engineering) that if you see a chick with that area tattooed, at the very least if you tried you've immidiately got a better than if that tattoo was not present.

You really didn't know that? Hell, my MOM knows about it (and she explained that to my cousin right after she got a tattoo on the small of her back)

So you can tell yourself that guys don't think you're a whore because of that tattoo, but I'm telling you that every single one of them that saw that tattoo before they got to know you thought that you're to some degree a whore because of it.

Meh. They sound like the same type of guy who thinks I'm an idiot cause I'm female. I try not to let neandrathals bother me, especially those who judge a person on sight because of some silly tattoo. The world is full of ignorance.

No, I don't think you understand, if you talk to a guy, he thinks this way. He may lie to you, but he's thinking that way.
And it's not just the guys who think you're dumb because you're a woman. Instead, it is the guys who'll joke about women when you're not around also (and this group encompasses every guy you know, I am almost certain)

I do understand. I call those type of men chauvinist pigs. You're not condoning their beliefs, are you? Thinking that you can label a women based off of some trait like a tattoo is disgusting and demeaning.

Re: Tattooes

galenrox said:
I'm not saying that it's fair to label all women with that area tattooed whores, but I will say that I'll bet that there are statistically significantly more slutty broads with that tattoo than without.

But to the point, the group you are calling "chauvinist pigs" is a group I call "heterosexual men". Some may claim that they never think such chauvinistic things, but those guys are not only chauvinists, but they're also liars.

For example, as far as guys go I'm about as enlightened without being patronizing as they get, and I can guarantee that I have said and done things that if you heard them you would immidiately kick me in the nuts and never speak to me again, and I can tell you all the guys you know, they've all done things of that nature too.

There's a difference between joking and meaning it. I joke about how bitchy women are all the time. It's a funny stereotype. However, once you start calling a woman a whore and treating her like one because of a mark on her back, then you're a pig. Those men objectify women and would probably fit right in in the Middle East. I hear they think women are property too.

Dude, how would a tattoo on the small of her back make a woman skankier than if it were on, say, her shoulder blade, or her ankle? I only think a tattoo is skanky if it quite obviously means nothing and was done for the sake of trendiness (Wow, a butterfly or barcode? How original and personally significant!), in which case it could be anywhere.

I'm not sure where to get them that could be easily covered when I'm in a formal dress, or my wedding gown, or trying to hide it from employers. I definitely want a raven tattooed somewhere, as ravens have mean my favourite animal since I was a child (I was thinking on the small of my back, too. :2razz:). A small star of David near an ankh would be good, too... maybe on the front left-hand side of my pelvis, next to the navel, or maybe on the inside of my left wrist. *ponder*

galen, I'm not talking about a three-year span. I am talking about 15 years down the road. I had multiple pierces put in my ear when I was younger. I have not worn earrings in those holes in 15 years. But that's an easy correction to make.

vergiss, a tattoo on your ankle could be a good thing. That's not an area that gets saggy with old age.

This is true. However, it could prove difficult to cover, particularly in an evening/wedding gown (unless the skirt is floor-length, which is somewhat annoying to ungraceful, clumsy me). Also, I've heard that bony joints like the ankle hurt a hell of a lot more. :?

There's always laser removal. It's pricey and not always effective, I know, but I imagine it'll be quite improved by the time I'm 50 and possibly having second thoughts. ;)

I'm sorry Kelzie but I gotta back this statement... We are just being honest in giving a male perspective. I don't judge that way, but then, I'm forcefully fighting it.

Surfer girls are doing the tribal bands around their upper arms... But I know one who did the ankle. Either way your marred for life.

This is actually forbidden in scripture, even Torah... Just thought you should know/be reminded.
