Today I have read some articles dedicated to accusation of Bashar al-Assad's forces of launching a nerve gas attack on rebel-held districts near Damascus. Is it coincidence that such accusation appears as a U.N. chemical weapons team investigates the possible use of chemical agents in Syria?! Such unconfirmed news only escalates the situation in region.

Syria True Story - Documentary - YouTube This is a real documentary footage related to rebels' activity.

In addition senators John McCain and Lindsey Graham encouraged Obama to provide lethal assistance to the rebels. “The President’s red line has been crossed,” they said."Now is the time for more decisive actions.”

I have nothing to say )

Instructors from US Special Forces are training armed opposition groups that are fighting against the government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, the French newspaper Figaro reported on Sunday.militants

The US commandos are training rebels from the so-called Free Syrian Army in camps located on the territory of Jordan.

The training program started in late 2012 in a base located on a private territory in the northern suburbs of the Jordanian capital of Amman. Apart from the US instructors, the Syrian militants are also receiving training from French and British commandos.

The US military also make raids into Syria from Jordan and Lebanon for reconnaissance purposes and for preparing terrorist operations in support of Syrian rebels, the newspaper said.

It is hard at this point to tell, what is going on in Syria and what is only said to be going on. Also it is hard to use logic like: If they have nothing to conceal. why exclude the inspectors? Remember Saddam? He thought Germany, France and Russia would save him. So he did not let them in.

Russia might have learned that lesson, though. It seems to be saying - at least in public - that it wants the inspectors to have access. Of course Sarin gas disappears rapidly and might be gone tomorrow or the next day.

Anyway. We have that Red Line on the book and we have said, that the US position is that the Syrians used chemical weapons on its people. If they now let the UN in, we may be off the hook If not, we have to make a decision. Do we squeak with a loud voice and a wet cloth in our hands or do we talk softly and wield a club? It will make a big difference in the future, how the world sees us and listens.

Le Figaro: US Special Forces Train Armed Rebels in Syria

Gotta say your source has taken Le Figaro article out of context. Heres the original

Syrie : l'opération anti-Assad a commencé

Firstly one assumes that that the word 'terrorist' would conotate someone with an intent to kill civillians, the article makes no such reference to such attack simply saying

Selon les informations recueillies par Le Figaro, les premiers contingents syriens formés à la guérilla par les Américains en Jordanie seraient entrés en action depuis la mi-août dans le sud de la Syrie, dans la région de Deraa.

" According to information received by Le Figaro, the first American/Jordanian trained Guerillias have been involved military action in Derra province since mid August"

Most importantly the article claims that the Americans are supporting the Free Syria Army, not Al-Nursa.

"According to military sources, the Americans , not wishing to place its forces on Syrian soil or arm rebels under the control of Islamist militants have been quietly training hand picked fighters from the Free Syrian army on the Jordanian border for several months."

Once again one would have hoped that the fact the Free Syria Army and Al Nusra have been busy killing each other would have demonstrated that they have very different agendas.

Once again I would have hoped that the fact these groups have been busy killing each other would have given away the fact that they represent very different agendas. As even your friends in Syrian state media admit

Syria Al-Nusra Militants Execute FSA Commander

On the contrary the Free Syrian Army encompases a cross section of society including secularists, leftists, Christian, Shia and even Alawites which is precisely why Al Nusra are killing them and precisely why we should be supporting the Free Syrian Army to banish both Islamism and Baa'thism to the history books where they belong.

l will have a look at the original link then although my french is worse than my eng:2razz:

It was the "rebels", and that would be us (the USA), that used poison gas a few months ago. I suspect that a rebel lab or storage depot for Sarin gas was struck by a bomb or the rebels are attempting to generate a "false flag" accusation that will automatically be supported by the lapdog press in the USA. Same seedy type modus operandi as when we invaded Iraq. Handfuls of smoke, and reflections of delusions.

Heya DF. :2wave: Exactly.....it is the rebels that called for the UN to come and check things out saying it was Assad. Yet we can't trust much of what they say. As they have a different version of what the truth is and what facts are.

All this push by The French, Brits, and us.....all due to the sectarian violence that has spread everywhere else. Since Assad was playing by the rules of the game, and we the West couldn't get him out. Now the French and us want to up the ante.

Which all of this started again over the use of the Chems after Assad started winning back areas and kicking the Rebels ass.

This war was started by Assad when he fired on peaceful demonstrators, was the US responsible for that was well? maybe they caused the drought which preceded the numerous **** ups the people were protesting as well?

Heya RD. :2wave: Is there a link that validates that? Are you sure the demonstration wasn't set up by the MB?

Heya Jog. :2wave: Do you think it could have to do with Assad winning and taking back the country? Assad agreed to inspectors. Do you think during an offensive to take parts around Damascus, that Assad should take a time out. So the inspectors can go in. When he is pounding those Rebels there and is in a position to take back that flank?

Maybe it's best we say nothing until it is over with. Then decide what we will say then. They do say Silence is a Golden Rule. Just sayin.

Hi there MMC! Good to see you.

It is certainly better to say nothing, if you want to avoid being heard.

When your right....

But remind me to never be a Pawn.

The rebels did not asked the UN to go and check.
Honestly, it was the Russia who called the UN first.

However, the UN inspectors have not received yet a confirmation from govern, nor from rebels for a free & safe investigation.

How could Assad use chemical weapons knowing that there is a U.N. resolution against such weapons--any use of them would most likely trigger a U.N. intervention by a coalition force; however, this wasn't the case in Iraq: The U.S. went in guns blazing with the assumption that the Saddam Hussein regime was collaborating with AQ to produce WMD's(or, if there is a better reason someone please let me know), and if I remember correctly, at the time, the U.N. was still investigating for evidence of WMD's. Well, what's the difference between Iraq and Syria; ostensibly, it seems to be the oil. Thus it is not profitable for America to intervene, especially given the delicate domestic political economic situation in America; furthermore, the U.N. is steadily losing its efficacy because it has become a platform for the very cause of the problem.

The rebels need international support. It is a testament to the impotence of the U.N. that they have been incapable of preventing such a massive loss of life; or perhaps it is partially fueled by Russia, who stands to profit by a prolonged war through the sale of firearms. The point is that an international policy incorporating dollar diplomacy and the profit motive as a mechanism NOT humanistic foundations is what we're looking at. When it comes to international politics money speaks; whoever has the most to gain economically is the one who leads the charge, which, in this case is Russia. However, I believe that the best interests of the world truly lie in the immediate intervention and establishment of a new regime, which will be monitored by the U.N.

So Barack Obama needs to step up to the world stage and make sure that happens; however, he is incapable of doing that due to the awful domestic situation here at home; he said recently that we need to be cautious, meanwhile attacking conservatives, but when people are losing their lives daily there is no time to be cautious!!!

Why should we make any move again? Why would Terrorists need International Support?

Syria's war splits nation into 3 distinct regions

13e366e0161c8a1a390f6a7067009868.jpg

More than two years into Syria's civil war, the once highly-centralized authoritarian state has effectively split into three distinct parts, each boasting its own flags, security agencies and judicial system.

In each area, religious, ideological and turf power struggles are under way and battle lines tend to ebb and flow, making it impossible to predict exactly what Syria could look like once the combatants lay down their arms. But the longer the bloody conflict drags on, analysts says, the more difficult it will be to piece together a coherent Syrian state from the wreckage.

"There is no doubt that as a distinct single entity, Syria has ceased to exist," said Charles Lister, an analyst at IHS Jane's Terrorism and Insurgency Center. "Considering the sheer scale of its territorial losses in some areas of the country, Syria no longer functions as a single all-encompassing unitarily-governed state."

The geographic dividing lines that have emerged over the past two years and effectively cleft the nation in three remain fluid, but the general outlines can be traced on a map.

Moreover, the opposition movement itself is far from monolithic, and there have been increasing outbursts of infighting between al-Qaida affiliated extremists and moderate rebel groups, as well as between Kurds and rebels of a radical Islamic bent. That violence holds the potential to escalate into a full-blown war among armed opposition factions.

In the north, fighter brigades have set up judicial councils known as Shariah courts that dispense their own version of justice based on Islamic law, including in some cases, executions of captured regime soldiers and supporters.

"While there are shifts in momentum on the battlefield, Bashar Assad, in our view, will never rule all of Syria again," Jay Carney, the White House spokesman, told reporters in Washington last month.

The comments appeared to leave open the possibility that while Assad has lost control over large parts of the country, he may well be able to hang on and even expand his core territory in the future.

Syria's partition into mini-states is an ominous scenario for a country that sits along the Middle East's most turbulent fault lines. Any attempt to create an official breakaway state could trigger a wave of sectarian killings and have dangerous repercussions in a region where many religious, ethnic and tribal communities have separatist aspirations.....snip~

Syria's war splits nation into 3 distinct regions

It was the French that started the whining and crying in the first place.....Lets see France step up to the plate and go and handle something on their own for a Change. Rather than just make cheap talk like they always do.

Course the better question is.....did the Rebels actually think their hapless and incompetent asses wouldn't get caught using Chems?

Heya Coin.....yes the Rebels pushed for another inspection and the French have been pushing all along with the US since the first time the Rebels claimed Assad used Chems.

Yes but from as far as i know, the inspectors can enter the Syria and do their work but they did not got the green light yet for 3 places in Damascus (i do not remember the names) where there is doubt the use of chemical weapons. The govern and rebels as well did not provided yet the free pass and the safety of the inspectors as far as i know. Always regarding these 3 places. Maybe they could have get the green light now.

However, I will not believe at all this investigation. The way i see this is that the govern may have used chemical weapons now (for the first time) and this is going to be the key to bomb Syria.
There were several signs since 2012 when rebels were using chemical weapons. They even made couple of videos threatening Syrian people.
I remember Carla del Ponte accused rebels for using Sarin gas and no movement was made. The US and UK had always insisted that rebels did not used, based on their intelligence info even that investigations were led by UN.

The US military also make raids into Syria from Jordan and Lebanon for reconnaissance purposes and for preparing terrorist operations in support of Syrian rebels, the newspaper said.

Al-Manar (Arabic: المنار‎[needs IPA]; English: the beacon) is a Lebanese satellite television station affiliated with Hezbollah,[1] broadcasting from Beirut, Lebanon.[2]

Al-Manar was designated as a "Specially Designated Global Terrorist entity," and banned by the United States on 17 December 2004.[3] It has also been banned by France, Spain and Germany,[4][5][6] and has run into some service and license problems outside Lebanon,[7] making it unavailable in the Netherlands,[8][9] Canada[10] and Australia[11][12] while it has not officially been banned in any of these regions...

According to the US department of treasury, Al Manar is the media arm of the Hezbollah.[17] The station manager Muhammad Afif Ahmad, said that Al Manar belongs to Hezbollah culturally and politically.[18]

Yes Coin.....those 3 places being where battles were taking place. See that's what the Rebels and the West are using as excuses. As Assad is kicking the Rebels asses in those 3 places. You don't think the US would stop fighting a battle just to let some inspectors come and check things out now. Do ya?

The Rebels are so desperate they will say anything and do anything to get others involved.

Looks like the Syrians have joined several other countries in wanting to get the Muslim Brotherhood out of their Country.

Your reply conveys the complex situation in Syria, but what is the driving force of all this tension? According to you it is that there are, "religious, ideological and turf power struggles" throughout the region. Do you have the knowledge to elaborate on the specific nature of the disagreement between these factions?
