HELSINGBORG, Sweden — Cheers and applause greeted far-right Sweden Democrats (SD) leader Jimmie Åkesson as he addressed a boisterous pre-election rally in the southern port city of Helsingborg. https://www.politico.eu/article/sweden-democrat-far-right-party-cusp-power/

but wait... whew! I just remembered, that the right in Europe is to the Left of the Democrat Party, so "far right" in Sweden means like, Joe Biden or Barack Obama.

But does it mean pro-Putin or anti-NATO?

So it's not like Adolf Hitler far right?

Don't care much for Politico's stance anymore.

The new owner of Politico, Axel Springer, has a decades-long record of bending journalistic ethics for right-wing causes.

No, not that far right. Hitler believed in individual rights, free speech, free markets, open borders, and strict limits on government power. None of the Sweden Democrats are as far right as Hitler was.

I suppose Hitler was just spreading those rights across Europe?

You make it sound like Hitler wasn't a fascist.

Sweden has always had a right-wing element to its political culture IMO. It had a bit of a Libertarian feel to it.

Oh yeah, he was a big fan of the "individual right" to die in a state-run gas chamber due to racial and political differences. And no doubt the free speech rights of his victims were being respected as he murdered them.

The Sweden Democrats most likely will have a good election and still not become part of the government. If the bourgeois block does well enough, the Sweden Democrats could be the kingmakers that bring them to power, however I don't think they'd enjoy being the man behind the curtain, but I can't see the other parties letting them be anything more than that. And that requires the bourgeois parties to do well enough that they have the numbers together with the Sweden Democrats. Could also be the Center Left block manage to hold a majority barely. And could also be that any government become completely impossible to form, which is what I think will happen.

Which invaded country got more individual rights? Who did Hitler free from oppression?

Look, whether you are left-wing or right-wing is determined by the political views you hold. We know for a fact that Hitler was right-wing, therefore he held similar political views as Milton Friedman, Ayn Rand, and modern libertarians. It makes perfect sense, I don't understand why you two are having so much trouble.

If Hitler = Libertarian - Right I'll take your word for it since you're Libertarian - Right.

It's just that Hitler's actions didn't help anyone get those rights you claimed he believed. Papers please.

How is labeling someone "far-right", which is clearly a pejorative, supporting a right-wing cause? So your response makes zero sense. However, I'll say that if it was some nutbag leftist that bought Politico I somehow thing there wouldn't be such pearl clutching though.

Far right in Sweden is far right in the US, maybe a little bit more towards Nazism where your extreme right moves toward Facism. It has all the elements of racism, thinking of “masters" set to rule others, privilages by birthright, but with some elements of socialism when it comes to the lesser successful people of the masters...

They got 21% of the votes in yesterdays election and are now the second biggest party. They are strongest in the south of Sweden (as was the Nazi party during WW2)

No, Hitler was obviously left wing. He believed in worker’s rights, religious freedom, women’s emancipation, freedom from discrimination and was a harsh critic of corporatism. Ernst Rohm said as much at Nuremberg.

He believed in none of those things.

They're all pretty much in accord when it comes to dealing with the least of us: **** 'em.

Their amoral policies tend to reflect a strict social hierarchy with those of wealth and property at the top, using their wealth and property to consolidate more of it, while everyone else scambles for what they can get.

Sorry guy, my post was tongue in cheek and meant as a sarcastic response to the post I answered.

Hilarious, especially the strict limits on government power part.

I guess I'll have to concede this point. He did believe in workers' rights. Here he is from Mein Kampf:

"In the present state of affairs I am convinced that we cannot possibly dispense with the trades unions. On the contrary, they are among the most important institutions in the economic life of the nation. Not only are they important in the sphere of social policy but also, and even more so, in the national political sphere. For when the great masses of a nation see their vital needs satisfied through a just trade unionist movement the stamina of the whole nation in its struggle for existence will be enormously reinforced thereby."

Hitler also created the DAF, which harmonized relations between employers and employees by controlling wages and working conditions. While it wasn't perfect, compare Hitler's actions to Lenin - who sent Trotsky to murder workers trying to form unions:

unions kronstadt.jpg

Hitler was friendlier to labor than Lenin was, so I have to admit that you are correct on this point.

religious freedom, women’s emancipation, freedom from discrimination

Not really. Hitler was actually obsessed with race, and he believed one particular race was causing all the problems. It's a position that sounds very familiar, so I may have to concede this point as well.

and was a harsh critic of corporatism. Ernst Rohm said as much at Nuremberg.

Again, he really wasn't. He liked the idea of using large corporations to do the government's dirty work.
