It's not surprising at all. Websites routinely encounter issues when they are hit hard on a particular day. And with this being the first day, it's not surprising at all.

As far as your quote, I would hope you're knowledgeable enough to know the difference between a law and a website.

Be interesting to know how many flooding the system are just CON lookie-lous clogging up the works sorta like they are in Congress. I guess the best analogy is a CON mass is like a grease clog in your pipes at home.

Least there is a lot of interest.

9 minutes after launch?

Congressman Tim Huelskamp (R-KS) tweeted out a photo at 12:09 AM EST showing the Obamcare exchanges website was down, nine minutes after various federal government offices shut down and the Affordable Care Act exchanges went into effect.

Must be that government shutdown.

Sebelius said about 52 percent of HHS employees will be deemed unessential and furloughed, but that will not affect any workers in the call centers or ”navigators” tasked with helping people to sign up. Most of the funding for the Affordable Care Act, aka Obamacare, was provided in the law so it would not be affected even if the federal government shuts down.

It was a joke........

I firmly believe everybody in the country should exercise their patriotic duty, and sign up immediately. Even if you've been granted an imperial waiver or exemption, you really should sign up anyway. C'mon. Be a good American, and sign up today.

The website has been up for a while. And if that's when an extremely high number of people signed on (not surprising at all that they'd sign on soon after it was available for signing up), then yes.

when has it become my patriotic duty to pay more for my insurance so the lazy fat asses and smokers can pay less?

Now, now. Get with the spirit of the thing, and sign up today. If everybody signs up today, it'll crash - in more ways than one. On the other hand, if nobody signs up or only a few, it'll also crash and burn. The government can't run the program on fines alone.

I expected this for the first day, with millions of people trying to access at the same time (including people accessing for the purpose of jamming the site).

I recommend waiting at least until Day 2. We can sign on during a several month period.

I tried this morning and could not get on. Last night, though, it worked fine, and a chat line rep came up within a few minutes to answer my questions.

This is really great. All these people finally having access to affordable care. Wonderful.

I wondered that, too.

you are talking about the rep with only 20 hours of training and doesn't have a background check that you gave your personal information too? probably being sold to scam artist in Nigeria at this very moment

The "System" has been down since Obama got elected.

Actually, you've been paying for them your entire adult life...in the form of taxes to pay for their emergency room visits...and when they go bankrupt and lose their homes (half of ALL bankruptcies are due at least in part to health care costs), YOU are paying because when houses go empty, property values go down...and YOU lose money when you sell your house. Not only that, but YOU also pay at the store, because when people go homeless because they went bankrupt, crime goes up...and so that store pays more in insurance (which means YOU pay more), and YOU also pay more in terms of police, courts, and prisons.

THIS, sir, is why before we ever considered Obamacare, YOU were ALREADY paying twice as much of your taxpayer dollars for the health care of other people as do most people in other first-world democracies. What deficit-neutral Obamacare does, guy, is to try to get us to pay LESS of our personal taxpayer dollars for free health care for other people...which is the case of ALL other first-world democracies - you know, those oh-so-socialist nations? You DO know they pay in taxpayer dollars on average about half what we're already paying in taxpayer dollars for the health care of other people, right?

SO IF YOU WANT TO PAY LESS IN TAXES FOR THE HEALTH CARE OF OTHER PEOPLE, THEN DO WHAT THOSE OH-SO-SOCIALIZED FIRST-WORLD DEMOCRACIES ARE DOING - because they ARE paying a LOT less than us, and in most cases, they're getting BETTER results than we are.

Oh - and if you want NONE of your taxpayer dollars to pay for the health care of other people, then go to almost any third-world nation of your choice...because that's how it works there, and you can find out first hand how "good" it is to not have to pay for the health care of other people.

Obama ?

Seriously...you don't know anyone you love without health care, do you? It's not very funny. Now, that problem is fixed. Thank God for the Affordable Care Act. Thank God.

You don't know much about this process, do you? You don't give personal information to the workers. But no matter. They will tell you up front (those that are too stupid, like yourself, to know) not to give them personal information.

This is a wonderful program. That's what the Republicans are so afraid of. That more and more people will see that. Despite people like you, who know it's good for millions, but are determined to try to make it fail because it will help your political party down the road in other ways.

Unless you are very wealthy, the Republicans are not looking out for you. If you get ill and lose your job....the only way you will now be able to get health care covered is through the Affordable Care Act. Before that....you would not get health care except for emergency hospital treatment (at the government's expense....much more expensive than helping you pay your premiums, if you need it).
