Is it possible to fill up my car tire with a bike pump??? I had a slow leak that I let get to the point where the car tire is now flat. I want to take the car to the tire dealer so I know if I fill it up it will be fine till I get to the dealer. The leak is the type where I had to put air in tire every week or so. In any case I have a bike pump in the garage and I hooked it up to the tire but it doesn't feel like it's doing anything. Will it just take awhile or is it fruitless???? It's pouring rain out so before I stand outside getting soaked for 20 minutes I'd like to know if this is even possible or just stupid?

I doubt you will be able to fill it due to the pressure needed within the tire is a little more extreme then a bike pump can handle. BUT, you may be able to get enough air pressure in to raise the tire off the rim so it can be driven a short distance to a garage were it can be filled properly. I am assuming there is no spare for this car? Or possibly a can a "fix a flat" in the trunk?

Tire pump? nope...like Calm2Chaos said. But fix a flat will.

After that see about getting a cheap tire pump at walmart. The one that plugs into your cig lighter. Cost..around $10-$15

Good luck...

Well I do have a spare but choosing between changing the tire and pumping it up with a bike pump I chose pumping it up. It took about 25 minutes but I got enough air in that I felt safe driving it to Les Schwab.

The guy fixed the flat for free!!! Woohoo. At first I thought wow I'm all wet from standing in the rain pumping up this god damn tire and I still look hot enough to get a man to fix my flat free! But then I came home and talked to my sister and found out those guys ALWAYS fix your flat for free and it has nothing to do with how you look. She could have just let me go on with my deluded illusions but she had to burst my bubble.

But my car is all good to go and I've learned that yes you can use a bike pump to fill a tire it's just a biatch to do it but I've managed to get to 33 without changing a tire and I see no reason to change now.

Also, get yourself a tire pressure gauge and check your tire pressure for the next few weeks. Sometimes a slightly warped rim will also be responsible for a slow air leak.

:2wave:

Don't listen to your sister... I am sure they never change tires for free, I have actually never gotten a tire fixed for free usually runs about 10 -15 bux. So I have no doubt it was how hot you looked all wet that got you the free fix. Amazing what a wet t-shirt can do for a woman....LOL

3am on a dark road and a flat tire is a real good reason to know how to change one. At the very least you should carry a can of Fix A Flat in your car.

Good point especially considering that I'm a cell phone moron. I always have it at the bottem of my purse and it's always completely dead 'cause I never charge it.

I totally agree. I would have done the same thing.
