I do not even have stimulus money at all yet, just had leftover christmas bonus money so I did what any sane person would do, buy a new crossbow, and a double barrel shotgun!

I ordered a 1850's percussion english damascus double barreled shotgun which should arrive next week(unless usps screws me over again) and I went down to walmart to buy a break action single shot hatfield shotgun, so my mossberg can have a break during dove season so I can fix the cracked stock, well they had zero of the break action cheap guns but well they had a 180lb crossbow, only one they had in stock in months, and just landed on the shelf.

Of course being a dumbass I wanted to test this compound 180lb crossbow to my 150lb recurve crossbow, the recurve xbow went 4 inches into wet compact dirt, the compound xbow went 16 inches into the same compact wet dirt, no way 30 extra pounds of draw did that, there has to be something different with the cams making delivered energy way higher than the other one.

On the percussion shotgun I will see it when it gets here, it was ordered out of new york from someone I dealt with in the past for antique firearms, if the barrel passes the test I might use it for dove hunting, if the barrel shows defects I will refinnish it by browning the barrel and redoing the stock to be a wall hanger. The exterior seems to be in fine shape for being around 170 years old, however those old barrels are a crapshoot on whether they are good or heavily pitted near the breach.

I'm awaiting my $600 stimulus money so I can order a crap load of authentic American flags that were made in China.

Could not even be creative could you, if I just had to waste money that much I would buy a massive sound system with epic subwoofers just to blast star wars imperial march through it while driving through the neighborhood.

Well, it IS fitting that our flags are made in the country that's slowly conquering us from within! Now that Beijing Biden has (cough-cough) "won", that process is going to be expedited! Hunter will soon have more crack & underaged Asian girls(to pleasure him while he smokes it) than he'll know what to do with!

Funny how most leftists were absolutely appalled by Trump bragging to a buddy about touching the privates of a willing groupie, but Joe groping people's daughters and wives, committing unwanted sexual assault against employees, AND Hunter being pleasured by very young Asian girls with a crackpipe hanging out of his mouth, is perfectly acceptable, as long there's a "D" beside their names!

I'm buying a shitload of .223 ammo and a red-dot laser sight with my $600.

P.S. Best wishes for your dbl-barrel shotgun. . . . hope it's in functional condition!

Well been repairing a hidden crack on the stock and de rusting the barrel, both actions work fine, the barrel is unknown as the raised rust is terrible, but so far everything past the raised rust seems to be smooth with minimal pitting. So I will keep working it with naval jelly and a bore brush until it is rust free and I can determine what the bore shape truly is.

My $600 will likely be split between my daughters....

Too many toys to play with as it is.

What do you mean by "de-rusting"? I bought a NICE kukri in 2012, made by hand in Nepal. Then I put it into a duffle bag a few years ago and put it into the shed. About a year later I opened the bag, and it was badly rusted!

Phosporic acid de rests, naval jelly works the same way, it does not destroy rust, but converts rust into something water soluable, right now after about 5 runs with naval jelly about 50% of the rust inside the barel is gone, and 2 coats outside got rid of 95% of the rust it looks like bare new metal.

With naval jelly you coat let sit for 10-15 minutes, rinse off then repeat as many times as needed, but it also helps to knock off heavy loose rust with a wire brush before hand. There is also something called evaporust, it works wonders and is non acid based like naval jelly, you can soak stuff in it for days and it will remove rust although at a slower pace, but the plus is you can toss it in a container of solution and walk away for a few days.

Evaporust though can turn some metals black, usually cast and wrought irons.

Unfortunately, it's potentially worse if you've got rust on the OUTSIDE of a gun barrel. The rust in spots eats through the gun's factory metal finish, leaving a light spot around the rusty areas. So even after the rust is removed, you're stuck with bare metal spots surrounded by dark factory finish everywhere else. So, then what do you do to repair the bare spots with a consistent, factory-finish appearance over the entire barrel surface, without having to remove ALL of the factory finish and re-coat the entire barrel again?

Update on the shotgun, well just the shotgun cuz the crossbow is still kicking ass and taking names!

Got the stock repaired enough, need more bore cleaning but one barrel is only lightly pitted with no cracks and looks just fine to fire, the other barrel even with an endoscope I can not tell if it is pits or raised rust, so I will have to clean it more to be sure.

Either way both locks function, the stock looks good for a patch job even though it needs more oil coats, and all other metal hardware was excellent except the buttplate, which has fractures through it only seen after cleaning all the rust off, but it is not a vital component. I have the barrel cold blued for the moment, but plan to strip it down and brown it later as browning goes better with damascus than blueing.

I will hopefully have some good pics in a few days of the semi finnished project.

Make some stupid purchases on ebay. Shouldn't be buying dvd's and cd's anymore but still do. I've been tempted to buy a pinball machine from time to time, but would have a hard time explaining to my wife. Sometimes it's easier to ask for forgiveness than permission. Lol
