Stewart, Colbert to Hold 10/30 Rallies

What's the message? I thought this was just going to be a laugh-fest.

Nope. It is Stewart's attempt to call people back to reason and become reasonable people again when talking about politics.

And a comedian who uses hyperbole and outrageous statements when "reporting" on politics is going to do that.....how?

Same way Beck did it. By trying and seeing what happens I guess? And Stewart never once said he reports on the news. He knows his job is a comedian.

I get the feeling he's a little jealous of what Beck did and he wants to see if he can do it better. Even though Beck's wasn't about politics...

I'll keep an open mind about it. I'll be interested to hear how it goes. Think they'll broadcast it on CSPAN like they did Beck's?

I doubt he is jealous. Stewart has never really liked pundits or "debate" shows on those 24 hour news networks. Stewart's isn't about politics either. I doubt they will air it on CSPAN.

Jon Stewart jealous of Glenn Beck? Bwahahahahahaha!!!!!!! They are comedians for cryin' out loud! They are satirizing Beck's rally's. That's all; and it is going to be fun and funny and I have made my reservations to be there and enjoy it first hand. Yipeeeee!!!!!!!!

Satirizing Beck's rally? Wow. So they're making fun of Martin Luther King Jr.'s message. They're making fun of honoring our troops. They're making fun of recognizing charitable citizens. They're making fun of religious people uniting together for the good of the country. They're making fun of being humbled in the presence of the memorials for the great giants that have lead this nation.

What soccerboy was saying actually sounded like it would be a good rally. If what you're saying is true, it's disgraceful.

? You just said this....

So it's not about politics, but it is about politics?

It isn't about one political party, but rather when people talk about politics they be sanity about it and stop the hyperbole. Hence why Sanity is in the title.

edit: So I guess it is about politics, but it is more about people being reasonable and sane when discussing politics.

Colbert's maybe the one that is satirizing, but it doesn't seem to be about a certain person, but rather how many people will jump into the fear factor. That is why his is about returning to fear.

What I've noticed is that Jon Stewart isn't blindly partisan.

Stewart constantly calls Democrats screwups and failures. He's criticized the President and other Democratic Presidents. The Daily Show is a News show with a focus on humor. But it's centered around News, not necessarily politics. While I think the Rally will focus on the discussion of politics, I don't think it will be a campaign for either political ideology.

That sounds good to me. Is Colbert's rally completely separate or something?

Yes, it's sheer coincidence that both shows want to do a rally in DC in on the same day :D

Well, they seem to have separate goals. One sounds noble and the other sounds disgraceful. Even the people who support the rally on this site seem to be confused as to what it's really going to be about.

Well I am going to assume you don't watch either show. Stewart and Colbert do stuff like this all the time at the end of the Daily Show. They will be talking about the same thing, but Stewart takes one position and Colbert takes the other. So, no they aren't two different rallies, but Colbert's is using satire since it is his style.

I do watch Stewart on occasion. I don't ever watch Colbert.

My two favorite Colbert episodes are the Battle Bunker one and the interview with Steve Carrel.
