This topic is about stereotypes, not reality. So,
DON'T BE AGRESSIVE if you don't agree. Just answer that it is not true. Don't be too serious.

Also, don't try to prove that a stereotype is true. All are wrong, by definition.

I create this topic in order to check the reaction of people about the way they are seen from the other side of the Atlantic, and their answer.

The aim is to show that all of them don't match with reality.

Let's start.

1) The Americans always eat hamburgers. They never cook (they prefer fast foods), nor eat vegetables. They eat like 20 africans together.

2) They don't care about environment. Their huge 4x4 pollute like a russian factory but they don't matter.

3) They are too patriotic. They believe they are the bests. They believe they are "the goods" and that those who don't agree with them are "the bads". They use the word "pride", "freedom" and "terrorism" every 2 minutes.

4) They never drink alcohol nor smoke. That's not funny!

5) They believe we are barbars because we drink a lot of beer. If only they had tasted a good old Bellevue Extra, they would understand...

6) They believe we are all anti-american leftists supporting the Jihad if we pronounce the word "Iraq"

6b) They believe we wear svastikas or launch a fatwa against Israel when we say something else than "those palestinian terrorists should be nuked", and, generally, think we are stuck-in-the-mud backwarded islamists treators when we don't agree with Bush' policies

euh...what else?

Because it's a simple way to understand reality

Simplistic, not simple. And because of that, they are harmful; as you said, stereotypes are effectively wrong by definition, and so they force people to start any new relationship by disproving the stereotypes the other party holds. Sometimes that can be done quickly, often very slowly, but it always takes effort that could be better spent elsewhere -- like showing the other person who you really are, instead of trying to prove who you aren't.

Take these stereotypes you have mentioned. I could go through them and describe ways in which American don't fit these statements, why they are not real, but that would take effort that I would rather use to tell you about reality.

People should get rid of their stereotypes. First step is to stop watching American TV.

This a joke? (It's another stereotype! )

Oddly, I think the internet does a lot to break down stereotypes.
After all, none of us really have any idea who we're talking to.

Sometimes I think it's easier to see the truth of a person when their face isn't in the way.

Stereotypes are created usually by a group of people to describe a different group of people. there are almost always truth in stereotypes i.e. whites are rascist-there are somewhat large groups of white people that are rascist, all blacks are theives-there have been many thefts involoving black people in the inner cities.

but you can't catagorize people based on some of the same types of people such as race, age, sex, or sexual orietation. it's just not right.

You forgot liberals are stupid.

and i also forgot that conservatives are greedy, selfish, sexist, and rascist. conservatives also hate poor people, minorities, atheists, and people that use common sense.
