...the Ukrainian gas company may have paid a $7 million bribe to the local prosecutors investigating the firm for corruption, according to interviews and State Department memos.

...buried in five-year-old diplomatic files, provides a fresh illustration of the awkward, uncomfortable conflict of interest State officials perceived as they tried to fight pervasive corruption in Ukraine under Joe Biden's leadership while the vice president's son collected large payments as a board member for an energy firm widely viewed as corrupt.

They wanted **** Hunter for his moral guidance and expertise in the drilling and exploration business. Seeing as he was an expert drilling whores... well connected and blackmailable.

Of course... Joe knew nothing of this bit of nepotism and corruption... ROTFLOL...

No, they wanted Hunter for his legal expertise in US international contract law...and of course his name didn't hurt, but that's as far it goes.

And Hunter didn't live in Ukraine and only visited it twice for conference meetings the entire time he was on the board. And I think he only met the Burisma CEO once. The rest of the time it was once a month telecommunication conferences with the relevant parties in the company. So the notion that he or his dad did something nefarious in Ukraine is just pure political garbage.

Speaking of 'expert drilling whores'...what do you think about the nepotism and corruption in the Trump administration? Why don't you want to talk about that?

That's right! Just because he didn't have any experience in the field, or the country, and no real experience that was of value, doesn't mean he was hired because of his family connections! Companies hire people for $50K a month and appoint them to the board of directors to chat on a monthly call all the time!

Yes. Check into retired military flag officers. No expertise in commercial fields. Yet they sit on many boards for name recognition.

You should lay off the Fox channel and get out into the real world more.

He had experience in international law and Burisma was interested in expanding it's operations to foreign countries, including the US. So he provided legal advice to the company...and there's nothing wrong with that.

And yes, companies hire board members for their names, reputations and connections all the time.

Shaq O'Neal is on Papa John's Pizza board of directors and he wasn't hired for his pizza making skills.

Retired flag officers often sit on boards more for their organizational skills. That's a separate issue. In fact, Hunter Biden was not a flag officer. He was briefly a reserve officer (under a waiver for his drug issues), and was released for testing positive for cocaine. Not generally the experience corporations are looking for.

And here, Biden didn't sit on the board to lend his organizational skills. It was for some nebulous 'expertise' he didn't have.

lol - some vague notion of 'expertise' on international law. Which they paid $50K for an hour a month? Really? You don't think they would get that through a law firm they paid a consulting fee?

I'm sure some do hire board members for their names - really their reputation and connections. Biden didn't have a reputation - Certainly not in Ukraine. And I know you aren't seriously comparing him to Shaq having a marketing arrangement for a US company.

You do realize that the minute they come to arrest Trump, he's going to get tested for Adderal abuse.
Standard procedure.

Whatever. Hunter Biden sitting on a board is not illegal in either Ukraine or the US.

Eric and Don Jr. have sold off more than $100 million worth of Trump Organization real estate. That figure includes a $33 million sale of the company’s stake in a federally subsidized housing complex, a transaction Secretary of House & Urban Development Ben Carson had to approve, and $3.2 million sale of land in the Dominican Republic last year, which is the the clearest violation of Donald Trumps pledge to do no new foreign deals while in office. In 2017 the Trump Organization unloaded a $15.8 million Trump Park Avenue penthouse, a home formerly occupied by Jared and Ivanka, to Angela Chen, who runs a consulting firm with ties to Chinese government officials and (allegedly) Chinese military intelligence. Trump personally intervened to get his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, a top secret security clearance. Ivanka Trump has used her family name to secure valuable trademarks in China. Cadre, a real estate investment company owned in part by Jarrod Kushner, has taken in some $90 million in offshore funding via an ominously-described “opaque offshore vehicle” in the Cayman Islands since he joined the White House. Some of the money came from other tax shelters; some of it came from unidentified sources in Saudi Arabia.

This only scratches the surface.

You sound jealous. lol

Rudy Giuliani's son has a White House job where he doesn't seem to do much

It just goes to show, "it's not what you know, it's who you know."

I hope Hunter made a *mint* off his daddy’s name. Good for him. Seems like a perfectly sweet failson.

From your source (none other than John Solomon):

U.S. officials in Kiev developed evidence that the Ukrainian gas company may have paid a $7 million bribe to the local prosecutors investigating the firm for corruption...

...The concerns were eventually reported to the FBI, although it is not clear whether the allegations were ever investigated more fully, according to current and former U.S. and Ukrainian government officials.

And none of it is tied directly to Hunter Biden in any form or fashion.

Quite the "smocking" gun there zimmer! You've blown this thing wide open!

Did you type this with a straight face? He was on the board of directors of a company paying the bribes to stop an investigation, and his father was threatening to cut off US support if they didn't fire the prosecutor i charge of the investigation. His own salary - $50K a month for a phone call - is a thinly veiled bribe. And there's no connection.

Wait, do you actually think a board of directors gets involved in who to bribe? Surely you are not that gullible.

The question is: what name recognition sake does Hunter Biden possess for Burisma to want him on the board?

What Hunter Biden did on the board of Ukrainian energy company Burisma | Reuters

Interviews with more than a dozen people, including executives and former prosecutors in Ukraine, paint a picture of a director who provided advice on legal issues, corporate finance and strategy during a five-year term on the board, which ended in April of this year.

Biden never visited Ukraine for company business during that time, according to three of the people.

They also said that his presence on the board didn’t protect the company from its most serious challenge: a series of criminal investigations launched by Ukrainian authorities against its owner, Mykola Zlochevsky, a multimillionaire former minister of ecology and natural resources. The allegations concern tax violations, money-laundering and licences given to Burisma during the period where Zlochevsky was a minister.

...

In an interview with Reuters in September, former Ukraine prosecutor Yuriy Lutsenko said Hunter Biden’s position on the board when his father was vice-president raised no red flags. “From the point of view of Ukrainian law, (Hunter Biden) didn’t violate anything,” Lutsenko said.

Ukraine’s new general prosecutor Ruslan Ryaboshapka, who took over in August, said he was not aware of any wrongdoing by Hunter Biden. His office announced on Oct 4 that it was reviewing 15 previous investigations related to Zlochevsky but no decision had been taken on how to proceed against him or people related to him.

But Trump should be impeached for the Biden's corruption.

The Trump family makes at least 50K a weekend every time Trump travels to one of his golf clubs. Why aren't you complaining about the fleecing of Americas tax payers?

I don't believe I said that. He is, however, connected to the company and their efforts to throw off investigations, and as a member of the board of directors, he was responsible for the actions of that company.

Do you believe Burisma really hired Biden for his expertise in international oil and gas law?

Please feel free to start a thread on that (with a source).

The bolded has zero evidence to support it.

As to why he was hired, I feel pretty certain it was because his last name is Biden. But there is no evidence that because he is a Biden that he could get his father to do anything for him.
