This is what authoritarianism & cronyism will do to a country - too bad Trump will ignore this trend

ISTANBUL — For 17 years, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan won elections by offering voters a vision of restoring the glories of Turkey’s Ottoman past. He extended his country’s influence with increased trade and military deployments, and he raised living standards with years of unbroken economic growth.

But after a failed 2016 coup, Mr. Erdogan embarked on a sweeping crackdown. Last year, the economy wobbled and the lira plunged soon after he won re-election with even greater powers. As cronyism and authoritarianism seep deeper into his administration, Turks are voting differently — this time with their feet.

Students, academics, entrepreneurs - are leaving Turkey in droves, taking talent with them. Rich people are selling everything they own in Turkey & are leaving also, taking capital with them.

That is unfortunate for Turkey, but what is an authoritarian nation's loss is a free society's gain. I for one think we in the West (North America, Europe, Oceania) should welcome these secular Turks yearning to breath, live and work freely with open arms.

To apply for an immigrant visa, a foreign citizen seeking to immigrate generally must be sponsored by a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident immediate relative(s), or prospective U.S. employer, and have an approved petition before applying for an immigrant visa. The sponsor begins the process by filing a petition on the foreign citizen’s behalf with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). You may wish to review our Directory of Visa Categories on usvisas.state.gov to learn about the different types of immigrant visas to the United States, including our Diversity Visa Program. Then, follow the steps on the Immigrant Visa Process, or on the Diversity Visa Process, on usvisas.state.gov to begin applying for an immigrant visa.

Sounds like a long & potentially difficult immigration process if they want to come here to the U.S. You need either a sponsoring relative or a job offer. But we should welcome those with talents & money.

Pardon my intrusion; we haven’t interacted much, but doesn’t the bolded go against the grain of your posted lean?

Yup ... and we do ... in addition to all those millions without talents and money south of our border.

By the way, the ones with money don't have a problem coming to the US of A. Lawyers like the Gold Star father Khizr Khan specialize in "importing" rich Muslims.

Did I lie about what Khizr Khan does for a living?

Out of all the 7.2 billion people in this world, you just 'happen' to select him.

As I said, another military hating Trumper.
