What a terrible deal for Spotify. They paid $30 million for the Obamas and got a few months' worths of content.

This proves woke media is a terrible investment. First CNN+ and now the Obama couple.

Joe Rogan attracts a large audience. Barack and Michelle? It just interests a small demographic of people that probably wouldn't even pay for a Spotify membership.

Tough less Spotify but it is good they didn't re-invest in a money loser.


Barack and Michelle Obama will not be renewing their lucrative podcast partnership with Spotify after clashing with the streaming giant over exclusivity and how much they were expected to appear in episodes.

The former first couple are said to be looking instead for a new deal at Amazon with its Audible service, or at iHeartMedia, according to Bloomberg which first revealed that the arrangement was not being renewed.

The Obama's signed their deal with Spotify in 2019 for an undisclosed sum but it is likely to be in the realm of $30million, the amount scored by Harry and Meghan in 2019 for a multi-year deal.

At this point I don't think people are outright lying on purpose very often. I think they're completely brainwashed by far right media, Trump's cult of personality, and H8 radio. They just believe because they want to.

Thread title and quote seem to disagree, the article presents it as if the Obama's didn't like the deal and so did not renew it.
There is also literally no evidence that the amount was $30 million, that looks like just a guess based on another deal another famous family/couple had.

By the way, I wasn't even aware this was a thing in either case, are there seriously enough people willing to watch them do something for them to get $30 mil in a deal?

Did anyone here listen to any of those podcasts? The only people who would care about this are those who listened and will miss the show, or people who never tuned in but think it’s a decent political football to toss around a little.

I don’t use Spotify, I’m not interested in what the Obama’s have to say, this is a story without much of an audience IMO

We already knew woke media was a terrible investment, but Im not sure this proves it. It sounds like Spotify made a bad deal with people who used their political influence to get paid and then didnt deliver.

Is there any proof Spotify offered to renew the contract?

I doubt Obama generated any paid subscriber growth to their platform. Obama's Podcast is no call your daddy or joe Rogan experience.

"It has talked with multiple big networks, including Spotify, but the Swedish streaming giant declined to make an offer, according to three sources familiar with the discussions."

Had never listened to any Obama podcast and don't think I even have Spotify.
If the Obama's weren't making money for spotify so they dropped them, so be it. Free enterprise.
