If Barry Goldwater, Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan could see the damage done to the GOP by the neo-con faction, they would be spinning in their graves. The examples of incompetence and squandered opportunities are too numerous to list in one post. The Bush people have undermined every fundemental principal that Republicans allegedly stand for. I can remember when the Republican party seemed to represent average working people with middle class values, and generally middle of the road political opinions. What used to be known as the "silent majority". I remember when the Republican party was actually conservative. Nothing like the radical right wing(neo-con) party it has become. This party has lost it's way. And the last election should drive that point home. The next election cycle will no doubt reflect the opinion of that silent majority. The people who hover around the political middle. The one's who make or break every election. The people who are not ideologically driven, but issue motivated. You know, the majority of Americans. A concept that utterly eludes the right and left alike. It's funny to watch some of the all too obedient ideologues struggle to defend a man who is arguably the least intelligent president in our history. The last six years have created a surreal political world. It has produced an almost survile, unquestioning, blind loyalty to what ever ill advised policy or mindless explanation. The neo-cons have managed to create the perception that the GOP is the party that represents CEOs and major share holders. That our so called democracy is a sham designed to create cover for the rich and powerful, while giving the rest of us petty diversionary issues to squabble over. Many Americans now seem to have the impression that good people's patriotism is being cynically manipulated for a mistaken war in Iraq and an imaginary war on terror. Goldwater, Nixon and Reagan probably won't get much rest for the next few years.

Welcome to the Republican Party of the 90's-today.

This election is going to be interesting. We will see if true Republicans can regain their party or whether the neo-cons/right-wings will win out.

Giuliani will be the test. If true Republicans can get him through the primary, I think Republicans have a good chance of retaining the whitehouse, but not only that, regaining their party.

However, Giuliani will face an uphill battle against the neo-cons/right-wingers.
