Spanish newspaper El Mundo provides details of child prostitution in Castro's Cuba
May 11, 2010

Looks like a gentle grandmother. She is around 50 and dresses like a nun in the convent, with loose and inconspicuous clothing. Her name is Ileana and she is an admitted lesbian.

Her business is prostitution. She always carries a black leather folder, and is looking for partying foreigners or Cubans with money that have had too much to drink and which she believes are looking for a hot night. She approaches them politely to offer her services.

From the black leather folderer, slowly, looking at both sides and taking care of people near her, she pulls an album of glossy photos, that no doubt wasprepared by a professional photographer, with dozens of boys and girls, depending on the sexual preferences, appear short of clothes and in provocative poses.

In her catalog, the grandmother-madame has everything. Blondes, brunettes, mulatto and black. "They are very young, my son, but if you are looking for some 12 or 13 years old, you will have to pay more," says Ileana in a maternal soft voice.

The madame starts providing prices in a soft voice. "One night 20 convertible pesos, two lesbians, twenty per head. What I have here is first clas. These are shy girls, who are not full-time protitutes, some are students," she explains while detailing the quality of her "merchandise."

Clients are taken to discreet brothels where they are offered expensive drinks and hors d'oeuvres. The chosen girl is already there waiting. After having a strong rum drink or a couple of beers with her, they go to an air-conditioned room that has TV and music. Interstitial - Noticia (In Spanish)

This abhorrent type of child prostitution isn’t tolerated in US and Europe, where the facilitator and the costumer, will be sent to jail for many years, but not in Cuba where is tolerated by the corrupt regime that turn a blind-eye for profit.

I don't know where you get your facts but sex trafficking is a growing problem in the US and Russia right now is the king of sex trafficking.

I don't know where you get your facts about child prostitution in the US, Russia and other European countries either. You don’t provide any links, research papers about the subject, valid statistics, anything.

As I said about Cuba on the occasion of all the newly unemployed because of the failure of the system Obama wants for us.

Now is the time for Cuba to completely reform and if the Castro brothers won't make the first move a Statesman which we lack totally could make the first more to end the embargo and help the Cuban people who are not and have never been our enemies and help our economy in the process. Import a few things from Cuba and they benefited greatly from tourism.

Granted a great deal of it was for Gambling and Mob related but there is a great untapped curiosity there and the poverty has been getting worse there since the partially imposed embargo on Cuba took place in October 1960.

This time in history has so many opportunities just waiting for a true world class visionary leader to step up to the challenges not only in Cuba but we have China showing signs of change possible. What a great thing it could be and boon to world economic growth could come just from the optimism that would come.

I believe that most of the economic growth at least in this country and markets is all about an attitude.

Those links that you have provided support this statement: "This abhorrent type of child prostitution isn’t tolerated in US and Europe, where the facilitator and the costumer, will be sent to jail for many years, but not in Cuba where is tolerated by the corrupt regime that turn a blind-eye for profit." Are you trying to justify what is going on in Dr. Castro’s island? Are you saying that child prostitution is tolerate in US and Europe and they turn a blind eye to it, that they don't prosecute the facilitators and the costumers, and they go free, that they do it for profit?

It is a right wing newspaper and any story should be taken in said context.
The ECPAT Network is a group of international organizations that works directly with UNICEF to end child prostitution and pornography. In its report of 2000-2001 ECPAT, UK reported the existence of child prostitution and traffic of minors in Cuba, and adds that in the country no measures have been taken on the matter. The report also says: “"In Cuba, the link between tourism and prostitution is perhaps more direct than in any other country that hosts sex tourists."

Tourism has created thousands of jobs in the sex trade. A higher ratio of tourists goes to Cuba nowadays for prostitution, instead of the beaches and climate, than any other country in the world. The number of children that are being sexually exploited, particularly below the age of 14, has increased noticeable.

The trafficking of Cuban children for commercial sex, are encourage by their families to obtain food or money. Hotel workers, taxi drivers and the security personnel involved in the tourist industry, facilitate the commercial sexual exploitation of women and children by tourists, meanwhile the corrupt regime authorities look the other way.

And you, on the other hand, provide an article from a Spanish language source, with your assurance that the translation is accurate.

My point is not that you ARE wrong, or the story is false... my point is that if you want credible links when someone else posts something, you should provide them as well.

Re: Spanish newspaper El Mundo provides details of child prostitution in Castro's Cub

The Castro regime's state security can find a UBS memory stick in the most remote dissident's home; it can effectively exclude Cubans from hotels, restaurants, nightclubs and other tourist-only facilities; it can censure all communications, wiretap the population, scramble radio and television transmissions, and even arrest an elderly American for helping connect the Jewish community to the Internet.

Yet, it can't control the overt peddling of child prostitutes within its own state-owned, apartheid, tourist resorts? Or does is it turn a blind-eye for profit?

Castro brothers regime just brought to Cuba’s society more poverty, more deficits of food, clothing, increased the repression, the abuses, and finally, took and place very far away hope for all people to live with dignity and freedom.

Commercial sexual exploitation of children in tourism
Cuba

Expanding tourism, together with other factors, has led to a growth of the leisure infrastructure. In connection with this, there has also been a growth of prostitution and cases of trafficking in humans, promoted by the difficult economic situation of the country since 1990. Every day, new children are driven into prostitution, in order to earn something to contribute to the survival of their family. Many street children are abducted and subsequently become victims of commercial sexual exploitation. In their desperation, some fall for promises of well-paid jobs in the towns and cities. In recent years, the number of children in the towns and cities that are being sexually exploited has increased markedly. The press reports of cases in which foreign tourists have particularly asked for children below the age of 14.

As such it does not act to protect them and does not allow NGO's like ECPAT
to operate in Cuba.
