VP Pence has stated that it is time for the US to not only have a presence in space but also to dominate in Space, for that the Trump WH wants to create a fighting force in space.

What do you think about this? Should the spaceforce be created with all the financial costs that comes with it or should the Trump WH stay with it's feet on the ground and start with earthly issues inside the US that need to be solved first?

And will it lead to an arms race with our foes (Russia/China) and worsening relationships with our allies (Canada/the EU)? Can the US win a space war? Do we really want to go into a pissing match with the Chinese? A country of one billion plus who do not have any qualms about risking their citizens lives to further their space program to also create a spaceforce.

The enemies of the US are not found in space, they are found on the ground, on mother earth so to speak.

Considering the Chinese have every intention of deploying a space force of their own, should we just let them station their systems directly overhead or do something to defend ourselves? The Air Force was at one time part of the Army. The importance of air power led it to become a separate branch of the services. Maybe it's time for a space force to become a separate service. Not to increase spending, just peel it away from current spending.

BTW; the way the poll choices are worded, it's just another troll.

Um......to the people who voted YES.......you do know that we have a program called NASA..........right?

Rhinoceros? Imposserous. Space force = space farce.

1. We can't afford it.

2. We don't need a separate military branch and more government and more expensive bureaucracy from the party of Big Government.

3. Our first priority should be making planet Earth a more livable, more peaceful and a safer place for all inhabitants.

4. Trump promised - and we desperately need - to rebuild, upgrade, improve infrastructure in the United States. He promised to spend one trillion to do it. So far we have nothing from the Trump Administration except butt talk and exorbitant expense account receipts. Meanwhile the 99% must co-exist with dangerous bridges and dams and highways and airports and sketchy drinking water in some places, unhealthy air in other places and an antiquated rail system.

NO SPACE FORCE UNTIL WE FIX AMERICA FIRST.

Are there any actual, factual indications that Russia, China, are developing their own space resources to focus on military use?

Sure, why not. We usually run a fiscal surplus and do not spend much on our military anyway... ja?

We should call college education for all a "Space Force" or "a new aircraft carrier" so it would get full funding.

No, it's not an original thought, but it's still true.

Just another $trillion handout to the MIC.

Our space program is the best money spent by our government. The improvements in quality of life thanks to technology cannot be measured in dollars.

The 13" black and white TV my parents saved years for with 3 channels that were more snow than picture is a perfect example. That was literally 6 months pay for my father. Today I can get 55" UHD smart TV and 100's of channels for less than 2 weeks pay. I am considered at poverty wages right now. My father was considered middle class at the time he bought his first TV.

LOL.

Look who loves dat socialism.

I bet government could improve quality of life by funding healthcare, too.

Socialism to a point isn't bad but necessary. Just like a democracy there needs to be checks and balances to protect the rights of the minority and the individual from mob rule. We were fortunate our forefathers were smart enough to realize that a combination of different governments is the best answer. We have always been part socialist if you are referring to large projects that cannot only be funded by all the people vs an individual or a few people. Of course I support government spending on the highway system and other large projects such as our military and space program. Welcome to America. The reason we are a superpower is because of these government/socialist projects. You just now figuring that out.

For now there are more pressing problems to solve.

Needed someday.

But Republicans are already operating at too high of a deficit and driving it up further with their cronyism. We don't have the money to spare at this time.

Protecting our assets in space is a necessity. We are more vulnerable to countries like NK or Iran by the damage they can cause by attacking our satellites tan any ground attack. The amount of things in our everyday life that depend on satellites is worth way more than a few trillion dollars. Trump is once again is ahead of the curve realizing we need to move forward in protecting and being able to reestablish most of our vital operations in space almost immediately after an attack. We need back up systems and redundancy as well as protection. The only fools are the people who do not understand how important this is. This should have been done when Reagan proposed it. We are already decades behind because of poor leadership.

No, it will only lead to yet another arms race with China/EU and Russia, there are more pressing problems to solve in the US, and there is no need for a spaceforce. Also we are trillions of dollars in debt. We need to worry about our country and threats on earth first.

I heard that the asteroid people of the Kuiper Belt have allied themselves with the beings of Uranus and are planning an attack on Buttistan and the US. Pence is afraid that the female dominated species of Uranus would be too much of a temptation, so he wants to set up a special force to combat them. He is getting push back though, since Trump has heard that the females of Uranus have 3 large breasts and are very willing "aliens", so he might be thinking of wife nr 4.

The US already has seven uniformed Service branches, we really do not need an eighth....I see no reason this cannot continue under the USAF.

There is no need for a space military, at least for the time being. Let me know if aliens are about to invade Earth and I'll change my mind.

We need to update the 1967 treaty, give it some teeth.

War in Space is stupid to the point where it makes Forest Gump look like a genius.
