LAS VEGAS (AP) — The head of the federal agency controlling the Colorado River said Thursday the U.S. government will impose unprecedented restrictions on water supplies to the seven Southwestern U.S. states that depend on the river unless everyone agrees by Jan. 31 on a plan to deal with an expected shortage in 2020.

Water users from Arizona, California, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming should have had a pact to sign at an annual water users’ conference this week in Las Vegas, Bureau of Reclamation Commissioner Brenda Burman said.

Anyone who does not believe in climate change, global warming & its affect on things like drought should take a drive outside Las Vegas to Hoover Dam. The evidence of how much Lake Mead has fallen is clearly shown on the canyon walls upstream of the dam road. Las Vegas is one of the biggest water consumers but I understand that most of what they use for things like fountains at hotels is returned to the lake.

Only idiots move to a desert and then complain about lack of water. Co2 didn't force them to move there nor made for the population growth. Blaming that on climate change is absurd.

I wouldn't camp overnight someplace where there was no fresh water but ever since air conditioning was perfected millions of people moved to hot dry country. Well-off people, lots of them, who like their green lawns and swimming pools and golf courses, people who think the reason for government is to make sure they get what they need.
Day's coming when a scheme is hatched to drain off the Great Lakes into the American south-west.

Do you have ANY idea how much water consumption in Vegas, Phoenix, Tucson and other cities that utilize Colorado river assets have grown in the past few decades? Unless we can figure out a way to get snowfall totals to increase in proportion to population growth we're going to have these problems. Climate change is the LEAST of the Colorado river's problems.

They will try. But the Upper Midwest will be like, "You'll have to take the Great Lakes from our cold, dead hands."

Yep, no matter how you divvy up less water among more people (and natural habitat) you come up short.

Blaming it on anything but human population growth is politically mandatory.

I'm sure they are looking at that as an option:

"Water, water everywhere" is the egalitarian vision of those who don't have enough of it and would like to tap the Great Lakes to get it.

Outside Two Harbors, Minn., on a cliff overlooking the broad expanse of Lake Superior, you are overwhelmed by grandeur — shimmering water, crashing waves, a down-bound ore boat on the horizon, miniaturized by distance.

As you fill your senses, you may be unaware of the invisible others behind you — 2,000 miles or so behind you, to the southwest — eyeing the Great Lakes in another spirit, coveting all that water.

And they can hire Elon Musk's tunneling company to build the underground aqueducts. Simple, yes?

The bolded is a great observation! Prevalent air-conditioning has been one of the key components in the recent North-South migration patterns (IMO).

To be honest, you're the first person I've personally seen offering this observation, besides myself.
